It didn’t take Neff long to punch out a “commemorative” T-shirt with Michael Jackson on it.
Just a day after the tragedy with Michael Jackson, we created the “Long Live the King” tee for all those lovers of MJ who wish to preserve the life of the King himself. The tees will be available next tuesday for $20 in select retailers around the country. Check back for exact retailers next week.
Wonder if “select retailers” includes Urban Outfitters?
While the Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling may have made everything at Mavericks Surf Ventures sound all cool, a post on June 26, 2009 by former Mavericks contest director Jeff Clark paints a little different picture.
The press release issued by Mavericks Surf Ventures this week stating that I ‘stepped down’ and I am ‘passing the torch to the next generation’ is wrong. The reality is that I was ousted as Contest Director by the current CEO. . . .I must also note that, while the company’s news release states that this year’s contest will be held to celebrate ‘the 35th anniversary of Jeff Clark’s first session at the now world-famous break,’ the 35th anniversary is actually next season, in 2010-11. I will not allow the company to use my accomplishment as a marketing tactic. . . .Effective today, I have resigned from the Board of Directors of Mavericks Surf Ventures.
So that, apparently, is the other side of the story.
Seems Dave Bergthold and the crew at Fuel TV’sBuilt To Shred are upping the ante and it looks good. A couple of those Junior Jeff Kings look familiar. . . read an interview with the man behind the madness right here.
Florida surfers have to put up with a lot. No waves, hurricanes, and sharks, but this week they had even more weirdness lurking in the lineup.
A rare American crocodile was captured at the Cocoa Beach Pier last Friday and there have been at least two separate alligator sightings in the ocean this week. One of the reptiles left its tracks in the sands of Satellite Beach. . . On Saturday, Jeff Scabarozi, the Brevard lifeguard chief, went to the Third Street North beach in Cocoa Beach. Aboard a personal watercraft, he rode within two feet of a swimming gator.
Bad day in Tinsel Town. Michael Jackson has reportedly died of cardiac arrest June 25, 2009 just hours after Farrah Fawcett. Jackson was also photographed on a skateboard, though, honestly, he looks like he was having fun on the roll.
Joel Gomez has sold the Sessions brand and trademark to a new company that is backed by Samsung America, according to press release on TransWorld Business. The new company will, not surprisingly, be called Sessions, LLC and will continue to do the same thing they’ve been doing only now they’ll be doing it with someone else’s money.
“Even in these difficult times, Cindi and I felt strongly that, with the right business model and team, we could capitalize on over 20 years of experience and brand equity” said Joel Gomez in a statement. “Cindi and I have great confidence in the viability of this brand. We have a strong and experienced team and with Samsung as a partner, we now have the necessary capital to assure a smooth transition and continued success.”
One more reminder that in these economic times there’s nothing better than a big, fat paycheck. Follow the jump for the entire press release. [click to continue…]
While we’re no fans of super flaired Flash websites, if a website owner is going to over-load their regular site with Flash graphics and other wiz-banglia, then the least they can do is build out a little mobile site for those of us who are riding the web with our phones all day. That’s exactly what Dakine has just done and the site works really well.
A newly launched, interactive site gives users access to DAKINE goodies while on the go. Content is broken down into categories including snowboard, ski, surf, skate, bike, windsurf, kiteboard, girls and music. An abbreviated version of DAKINE’s website, the mobile site, www.DAKINE.com/mobile, is compatible with most media rich-enabled cell phones.
In fact, if we were going to bookmark Dakine’s site on our home rig, we’d probably link up to the mobile site because it’s that much easier to use.
Farrah Fawcett died this morning at 9:30 AM. She was 62 years old. No one who didn’t skateboard has ever made skateboarding look cooler than she did. . . Thanks for the memories.
