After competing in the O’Neill Coldwater Classic in Tofino, British Columbia (and exiting in the round of 16), Australian surfer Mitch Coleborn got into a little trouble. He was reportedly arrested for indecent exposure on Friday morning October 15, 2010, according to a story in The Province.
The 23-year-old man, from the Sunshine Coast in Australia, was in custody until Friday night after allegedly exposing himself to adults and children about a block from Tofino’s Wickaninnish Elementary School early that morning. . . The police attended the area and arrested the man. He remained in custody until late Friday evening, according to Cpl. Andrew Waddell.
Mountie Waddell explained that “alcohol and possibly drug use” played a part in the incident. Coleborn’s passport was taken and his tentative court date is November 1, 2010 according to the story. Looks like Tofino is not the best place to go nutters.

Siamak Michael Rahimi, 56, of Santa Monica, California owns a big building in Los Angeles that he likes to use to hang tremendously huge advertising banners from. The most recent banner was for Vans Shoes. Problem is the banners are illegal in Los Angeles, according to a story in the Daily Breeze.
Rahimi. . . was arrested for installing and maintaining the jumbo-sized exterior advertisements on a vacant building and adjacent parking garage he owns at 9800 South Sepulveda Boulevard, across the street from LAX, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. . . Rahimi, LAX Enterprises and Westside Investment Group were each charged with 12 counts of illegally erecting a supergraphic sign, 12 counts of illegally maintaining an off-site sign, 12 counts of obstructing Fire Department emergency entrances and exits from the building and 12 counts for failing to identify the person or entity responsible for installing and maintaining the signs.
Wonder if the VF Corp is going to cover Mr. Rahimi’s legal costs?

When a bank in Austin, Texas was robbed by a scruffy white male people in the bank were quick to point out that “the suspect was wearing a ‘Volcom Diamond’ shirt.”

Baltimore, Maryland Police Officer Salvatore Rivieri who was caught on tape at least two times being a complete asshole way overstepping the bounds of his badge (click here for all the coverage) has finally (and thankfully) been fired by Baltimore City Police Commissioner Fred Bealefeld, according to a story on ABC 2 News.
Not so suprisingly, the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 3 thinks the firing was was wrong, according to the story. In their statement they said:
For the PC to increase the punishment to termination is an abuse of his discretion and not only does it end the career of a 19 year veteran who was out there doing his job, the PC’s decision sends the wrong message to all our police officers who are expected to aggressively keep our streets safe but cannot expect to be treated fairly and not discriminated against in any disciplinary proceedings.
Oddly, we believe this firing is one of the first times the right message is being sent to other police officers regarding how they handle skateboarders in general and children specifically. If not for Youtube.com this man would still be harassing people with his badge like a school yard bully and the sooner other officers realize that this is not proper police behavior the better.
Then the Baltimore Police can get back to the important stuff like allegedly shooting unarmed war veterans outside nightclubs.

[Update Saturday August 7, 2010: Yesterday, the OC Register updated its story regarding “arrests” at the US Open to reflect the following. “About 94 misdemeanor citations were issued Wednesday during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, police officials said. . . Four people near the pier and six from the beach and downtown area were also arrested and booked, police spokesman Lt. Russell Reinhart said.]
Huntington Beach Police are apparently being proactive when it comes to crowd management at the US Open of Surfing.
On Wednesday, August 4, 2010 they reportedly arrested 26 cited 94 people “near the pier” in only five hours according to a story in the OC Register.
“We didn’t have a riot or anything, there were just (several) people at the beach,” he said Thursday. . . Lt. Russell Reinhart said the police expect activity at the pier to get “much busier” as the weekend approaches. . . “This happens every year for this surfing contest event,” he said.
They’re not going to let another Op Pro riot go down on their watch. No, sir.

Can’t believe it has already been three years since Baltimore Police officer Salvatore Rivieri was caught on video jumping out of his golf cart and roughing up a 14-year-old skateboarder (click here for all the stories). Now, according to the Baltimore Sun, that officer has been “cleared using excessive force and discourtesy.”
A three-member police panel called a trial board held a hearing last week and found Officer Salvatore Rivieri guilty of failing to issue the youth a citizen contact receipt and file a report but not guilty on charges of using excessive and unnecessary force and uttering a discourtesy.
It is difficult to imagine a police officer be more discourteous to a kid, short of beating them, but apparently in Baltimore that’s perfectly normal police behavior.

Does this guy look familiar? On Monday, July 12, 2010 he robbed a Comerica Bank in San Diego and then escaped on a skateboard.
The robber walked into the Comerica Bank on Rosecrans Street near Midway Drive at 4 p.m., approached a teller and displayed a black, semi-automatic handgun that he had in his waistband, FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said. . . He demanded money and ordered the teller to put it into a backpack, then walked out of the bank and skated away.
As one industry pundit told us: “It’s probably a retailer trying to avoid being bought by the Bong…?”
