The 25-foot boat, which was reported stolen in Mexico, was towed to Newport Dunes and impounded as evidence.

All they wanted to do was party with the rest of Southern California and to think–they apparently brought their own weed.

Doctor Arrested For Hit And Run Death

by The Editors on July 11, 2011

JcorA doctor from Getzville, New York has been arrested for the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old skateboarder Alexandria M. Rice, according to a story on WGRZ.com. Alexandria was skateboarding home from work at 11:20 PM, according to Buffalo News, when she was hit and thrown 60 feet down the road.

Police arrested and charged Dr. James G. Corasanti, 55, Getzville, with DWI and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. . . Authorities say Rice, was riding her skateboard near 573 Heim Rd. when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. . . A police investigation located Dr. Corasanti at a gas station on Millersport Highway. Police say a 2010 BMW was later located in the Dr. Corasanti’s garage.

Sure, doctors are people, too. But to think that someone who has taken the Hippocratic Oath could drive away after running down a girl on a skateboard blows our minds. If Corasanti is guilty (he is currently out of jail on a $100,000 bond) this should be a career ender for the gastroenterologist and clinical associate professor of medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Our thoughts are with Alexandria’s family and friends.

Skater Fined $1,000 For Burnley Tunnel Bomb

by The Editors on June 7, 2011

Dominic-Emmenegger-729-420X0Swiss “backpacker” Dominic Emmenegger, 21, has become somewhat of a skatelebrity in Australia after attempting to ride his skateboard through Melbourne’s Burnley Tunnel during morning rush hour. He was nearly killed by several trucks and caused a huge traffic jam.

After his arrest Emmenegger then spent two nights in jail for “breaching his bail conditions.” Now he’s been fined $1,000 and had his skateboard taken away, according to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Dominic Emmenegger pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today to reckless conduct endangering serious injury.
In addition to the $1000 contribution to the Road Trauma Foundation, Magistrate Jelena Popovic placed the 21-year-old on a two-year good behaviour bond and ordered the forfeiture of his skateboard.

While staying in Melbourne Emmenegger is apparently staying with a “ex-Grand Prix grid girl” so it appears that things weren’t all bad. And yes, we’re going to guess he was riding a longboard. He was most definitely wearing a Hurley hat. .

Oregon Father Beaten With Skateboard

by The Editors on March 22, 2011

Note to parents of teenage boys: if you stop your car up next to a group of kids on the street and the first thing that happens is one of them smashes out your back window with a skateboard DO NOT get out of the car.

A father from Gresham, Oregon named Tom was responding after finding out that his 15-year-old son had been beaten up by a group of kids. He reportedly drove straight to the scene to see what was up, according to a story on KOIN Local 6.

“As soon as I stopped the car one of them busted out the window of the car,” he said. “I jumped out to confront them and one of the teens said, ‘You want a piece of me?’ so I backed up and the teen in front of him yelled for one of the kids behind him to hit me.” . . That’s when Tom was hit in the face with the metal wheel side of the skateboard.

Tom was left bleeding out his eyes and face and the kids, of course, got away before police could arrive. If that wasn’t bad enough, Tom’s cousin was beaten to death on December 31, 2010, and Tom is being laid off from his job at Les Schwab at the end of the month. On top of that, police detectives have not even contacted the family yet because they “don’t have detectives working weekends.” They’re never there when you need them are they?

by The Editors on March 14, 2011

Aspen-Snowmass-LogoTravis Lee Huffman, 22, an employee of the Aspen Skiing Company, was ticketed by the Aspen Police department for reckless snowboarding Saturday, March 12, 2011 after he slammed into a 7-year-old boy, according to a story on The Aspen Daily News.

The victim’s family happened to be videotaping at the time of the incident and captured the whole thing, Snowmass police officer Franz Zedlacher said. . . Huffman, who was in uniform, allegedly caught air off a blind roller and landed right behind the child before immediately colliding with him, Zedlacher said. . . “It was very blatant,” said Zedlacher, who added that Snowmass police watched the video. Huffman “clearly failed” to ride in a responsible manner, he said.

Huffman faces up to a $1,000 fine for his “Colorado Ski Safety Act” violation. Which reminds us: thinking a few yards ahead while riding really can help.
