Shaun Big White Gifty Christmas

by The Editors on November 29, 2012

Each year, apparently, Shaun White takes a chance to remember the birth of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by handing out products from all of his sponsors in a marketing promotion called White Christmas. The festivities begin on December 3, 2012 on Facebook.com/ShaunWhite and continue for 8 days. Not sure we’re going to make it to “the Facebook,” but we’re sure millions will. Day two is free gum for goodness sake. . .

Pat Bridges Speaks To Colin Whyte

by The Editors on November 29, 2012

As Snb Bridges2 400It’s a conversation that Snowboarder Magazine Editor Pat Bridges and journalist Colin Whyte have probably had hundreds of times over beer in some freezing ass mountain town dive, but now it’s for ESPN.com/Action and Whyte is getting paid. Don’t let that stop you from reading Bridges Tastemaker interview which includes nuggets like this:

As cliché as it is to say, I think we as snowboarders need to have more influence — and by “snowboarders” I don’t mean people who ride less than 10 days a year. Rather than calling out any specific groups, I will generalize by saying anyone who rides less than 10 days a year should have less say. . . This includes any agents who are out of touch, skiers, shop buyers, team managers, park managers, etc. … I could keep going for a while with that list.

It’s nice to see the business realities of corporate snowboard media haven’t clouded Bridges’ opinions all that much. Bottom line: the man is a snowboarding treasure.

POW: Burton Chopper Toy Story

by The Editors on November 28, 2012

2013 Prod Detail Desktop-2

It’s a Chopper baby! This limited edition Burton snowboard series features all of a kids favorite characters from ToyStory. Woody, Buzz, Zurg, the aliens and Ham all make appearances on the top sheet graphics of the eight boards ranging in sizes from 80 to 130cm. Featuring Burton’s catch-free convex base and a super-soft flex this board is perfect for even the littlest of groms.

Our guess is that the Rad Dad club is going to be all over this one for Christmas, so don’t get stuck hunting this down for your little bro or sis on December 23rd. Do it now (if there are still any left).

Bean Snowboards Wants A Kickstart

by The Editors on November 27, 2012

There is nothing better than free money and the most popular way to round up small amounts of cash these days appears to be Kickstarter. The craftsmen at Bean Snowboards in Boston, Mass would like to continue with their “very limited Artist Series” of handmade snowboards, but they don’t have money. That’s where you come in.

We work with local artists to produce unique snowboards showcasing their design and then have a party/gallery showing to spread the word about their art and give them an opportunity to sell other works. This year we just don’t have the capital to do the Artist Series so we’re turning to the Kickstarter community to help us fund it.

If you’re going to support someone it might as well be guys who are making snowboards with American-made materials in America. Right? Click here to buy in.

US Open Snowboarding Qualifiers

by The Editors on November 20, 2012

13Bur Uso QualifierNow that the US Open of Snowboarding has moved to Vail, Colorado did you actually think that Burton was going to leave the Eastern United States completely free of snowboard competition equation? If you did you thought wrong because Burton and Mini have created a US Open Snowboarding Qualifier at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania held during the US Revolution Tour February 1-3. 2013.

“Breaking out the US Open qualifiers from the US Open semi-finals and finals is a big change, but it is a super positive change because it elevates the US Open qualifying rounds beyond where they’ve ever been before,” said Greg Dacyshyn, Burton’s Chief Creative Officer. “Now, not only will the talented riders who compete in the new US Open Qualifiers have an event all their own, they will also be formally rewarded and recognized for the first time with legit prize money, important tour points and increased media exposure via a live webcast and TV show. In addition, this new event format enables a part of the US Open to remain on the East Coast where it has such a deep heritage, something that was very important to us.”
