Earlier in the week Endeavor Snowboards officially announced the addition of Rusty Ockenden and Cam Pierce to the pro team. They let us know yesterday.
“As a photographer, I’ve had my lens on Rusty for a few years now. He has great style, goes big and stomps his tricks” says Endeavor partner and Transworld Magazine Senior Photographer Scott Serfas. “Cam made a name for himself as one of the best up and coming urban riders as a youngblood on the Forum team. He has one of the best styles in the game and I believe he’s a perfect fit for Endeavor. I’m really looking forward to working with both these guys a lot more on and off the snow.”
A 32-year-old German snowboarder who fell headfirst into deep snow, suffocated Wednesday (February 6, 2013) at the Salzburg’s Saalbach-Hinterglemm, according to a story in the Austrian Independent.
Before the lifts closed down at Reiterkogel, a group of snowboarders went off slope. The German was the last one of the group and got stuck in a trench where, according to the Alpine police, up to four metres of fresh snow had accumulated. . .There, the man fell down – head first – and could obviously not support his weight anywhere. Thus, he was not able to breathe. . . His friends quickly realized that he was missing, started searching for him and called the lift attendants.
A doctor who flew in with the rescue helicopter “could not resuscitate the man,” according to the story. It sounds very similar to the British snowboarder who died in December at Chamonix. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.
Our favorite independent snowboarding website Yobeat is crowd sourcing a snowboard movie and they want you to be in it. The movie titled YoMerica! will be filmed by everyone featuring everyone. Here’s what it’s about:
It’s about you, me, us and we. It’s about going snowboarding, taking turns, laps, night riding and all the feelings that made us start and keep riding. It’s for the kids who ride every day, the warriors who drive hours each weekend for a few laps on some shitty hill, the good kids who hook up their friends and the pros who inspire us all. This is a film for snowboarders, no matter where they fall on the totem pole, to enjoy, laugh at and contribute to.
We better get our filmer on the program so we can start collecting some footy. You should, too. For the official details, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
The Google has reportedly added maps of 38 resorts to their Google Maps app, according to a post on ABC News.
Now you can find your way to never-ending mogul fun on the Mad Wolf run at Montana’s Big Sky Resort, or navigate to Vermont’s Stowe Mountain Resort’s freestyle terrain parks for shredding bliss. . . Other popular ski resorts on the app include Aspen and Vail in Colorado, Sun Valley in Idaho, Squaw Valley and Mammoth Mountain in California, and Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont.
At this rate soon we won’t even have to take our brains with us when we go outside. And that’s some good news.
The Colored Cow never lets anything get in the way of some good hyperbole. This year the SuperNatural has been upgraded to the UltraNatural. Event creator Travis Rice believes the 2013 event will evoke a “paradigm shift” in snowboarding. And what did they do? They put more unnatural objects in to enhance the naturalness so that it becomes ultra natural. Get it? Oh, and that other voice you hear in the middle? That’s Jamie Lynn. Can’t argue with that guy about snowboarding.
The lifts aren’t running at June Mountain Resortthis winter, but that doesn’t mean snowboarders can’t ride the untracked terrain. The US Forest Service has just lifted access restrictions to the resort, according to a story in the Inyo Register.
Residents and visitors were given the greenlight this week to enjoy backcountry skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing in and around June Mountain Ski Area for the rest of the winter season. . . Restrictions prohibiting such winter activities on national forest lands within the ski area boundaries have been lifted, now that the Forest Service and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area finalized an operations plan for June Mountain. . . The Forest Service still urges extreme caution in some areas due to avalanche danger.
This is great news for split board crew who know where all the secret slots are. And we’re guessing that roof drop might be kind of fun (since no one is looking).
Arbor Snowboards‘ Robert Toste, Jake Schaible, Yosuke Hayashi, Yuma Abe and Ian Sams hit of Southern California’s finest parks at Bear Mountain and Mountain High. As a reminder to the rest of the world, yes, LA has surf, beaches, skateparks, starlets, palm trees, and good snow less than an hour away.
Luke Mitrani (pictured right) is apparently the US National Halfpipe Champion if the USSA has anything to say about it. By placing third in the Park City Grand Prix over the weekend secured the title.
The Vermont bred champion, was thrilled to take this weekend’s overall win in Utah. “I’m happy to have landed the run that I’ve been working so hard on,” said Mitrani. “Today’s finish feels good, I am definitely stoked. But there’s still a lot of winter left this year to get on snow, have fun and keep dialing in my riding.”

Robert Sticky Shaw will be showing new work along with Karlee Mackie (KALM), Lauren Buckingham Over & Katherine Clarke Langlands in a new show titled Birds at Laguna Beach, California’s Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Birds have been symbols of power and freedom throughout the ages. Rising above the earth and soaring through the skies, legend has it that birds link the human world to divine realms. Birds are strong and mysterious – the majestic bald eagle, a trickster raven and a wise old owl. They are also comical characters – the Blue-footed Booby, large billed Toucan and talking African Grey Parrot. They are part of our lives from the stork bringing us into the world and they live among us as daily fixtures from imagery on currency and clothes to a V of pelicans gliding silently above the ocean.
