Gretchen Bleiler Muscles In On Milk

by The Editors on November 12, 2013

muscle_bleilerGretchen Bleiler is now staring on her own label of a limited edition bottle of Muscle Milk.

This is the first time the company has featured a female athlete on limited edition packaging.  The 14 oz. bottle can be found at retail outlets throughout Colorado through the rest of the year and is available in Vanilla Crème flavor.  A portion of the proceeds from this bottle will benefit Protect Our Winters in the fight against climate change.

Oddly, all you can see of Gretchen is her goggles, helmet and scarf, but we’d know that frontside air anywhere.

Official: Mervin Sold To Altamont Capital

by The Editors on November 8, 2013

Mervin LogoLast night (November 7, 2013) Mervin Manufacturing (parent company of Gnu and Lib Tech) released the official news that they have been purchased by Altamont Capital Partners (guess that whole Extreme Holdings, Inc. thing was short-term).

Under Altamont’s ownership, Mervin will operate as an independent, standalone company. There will be continuity across all areas of the company, including leadership and staffing, manufacturing, sales and marketing. Mervin has entered in to a license agreement with Quiksilver to produce and distribute Roxy branded snowboards, bindings and skateboards. The relationship will work similarly to how it has in the past, with Roxy sharing brand marketing and athletes and Mervin designing and building the snowboards in the USA, near Canada.

Reports put that sale at around $51 million. Not bad for a company that was once exchanged for a Volkswagon transmission. For the official word from Mervin (and co-founder Mike Olson) follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Mammoth Mountain Blasts Open

by The Editors on November 7, 2013

#Mammothsopen
Mammoth Mountain opened today, November 7, 2013, and kicked off the 2013-14 season in style. Guess who was on the first chair? We have no idea (the banner was in the way). But we know they weren’t a bunch of lazy ass, sleepin’ in skiers. Skiers haven’t gotten first chair at Mammoth in what a decade? The first hundred people in line got FREE lift tickets as well. That’s worth sleeping in the snow for, right? Those who made out were treated to 12-18 inches of snow, three lifts running and six runs to slide on. Wish you were there, huh?

Alex Yoder’s Patagonia Kit Talk

by The Editors on November 6, 2013

Yes, pro snowboarders get paid to wear the clothes they wear, but sometimes it’s interesting to hear them explain just why they like to wear what they wear. In this edit Alex Yoder explains the Patagonia Untracked Kit and he makes it sound pretty good.

Spy + Rime + The Seventh Letter

by The Editors on November 6, 2013

Spy is rolling out its third collab with The Seventh Letter and this time the Platoon goggle features the art of Jersey Joe, aka RIME.

RIME’s complex characters—inspired by Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, Looney Tunes, and comic strips—are intended to live in the grittiness of the outdoors rather than a sterile gallery, making the Platoon the perfect open air canvas for his lines. With classic graffiti style and an irreverent approach to everything he does, the SPY + RIME Platoon is part of the ever-evolving curation between the world-renowned Seventh Letter Crew and SPY.

It’s like subway cars on your head. . . follow the jump for the official word from Spy. [click to continue…]

30LrasThinking about venturing out-of-bounds or into the backcountry this winter? It’s never too early to being thinking about doing it all as safely as possible. The new Jones R.A.S. 30L backpack fits right in there with it’s Snowpulse Removable Airbag System.

“The 30L R.A.S. Ready is the ultimate split board pack for all day missions,” states Jones Snowboards founder Jeremy Jones. “When out for a day it is common to have 30 or 40 pounds on your back. Venture Snowboard’s Secret Sauce

by The Editors on November 5, 2013

You probably don’t need a new snowboard this season (who really does?) But if you’re going to buy one, it’s best to buy one from a real snowboarding company. Take Venture Snowboards for instance. Their boards are made in the heart of the mountains by snowboarders, not by starving factory workers in China. And that’s probably a good thing.
