Every since Kelly Slater busted out his frontside 720 in France last month it has become obvious that although skateboarders and snowboarders had figured out air rotation nomenclature years ago, some of the brightest minds in surfing were still having trouble sorting it all out. Now, thanks to Pierre’s little clip, this whole chapter can come to a peaceful conclusion. . . maybe.

Jamie Anderson is stepping up to prime time in January 2015 by being a contestant on the 7th season of NBC’s reality business show Celebrity Apprentice.
Competing in business-driven tasks around New York City for the charity Protect Our Winters, Anderson joins fellow cast members Geraldo Rivera, Kate Gosselin, Johnny Damon, Terrell Owens, Kevin Jonas and Vivica A. Fox, among others, in hopes of not getting “fired” by host Donald Trump, premiering January 4th. Over the past year, Anderson claimed gold in her sport’s Olympic debut, won at the 2014 ESPY Awards for Best U.S. Olympic Athlete and Best Female Action Sports Athlete and has been featured on the covers of both Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine Body Issue. She has also appeared on Ellen, The Tonight Show/Jimmy Fallon, the TODAY show and Good Morning America, among others.
That’s right kids, the only thing you’ll be good for after winning an Olympic gold medal is reality TV. Which reminds us — when will Mr. White join a show?

Our choice for winter shoes just got a whole lot bigger as Vans announces an expanded Mountain Edition footwear collection which now include shoes from the Classics, California, and Surf collections.
Vans Classics returns with eight weatherized color ways including the Era MTE, Sk8-Hi MTE and introducing the Old Skool MTE. The Era MTE surfaces in two earth-toned variations – Castlerock/Tobacco Brown and Forest Night/Tobacco Brown – outfitted in pig suede, leather and wool. The Old Skool MTE and Sk8-Hi MTE exhibit the same material mix across Black/Tobacco and Decadent Chocolate/Tobacco Brown color-ups. It appears we’re not the only ones who have grown tired of the SIA Trade Show in Denver. Burton Snowboards announced today that, aside from a booth for Anon accessories and two others for Riglet Parks and the Chill Program they will not be showing any product inside the 2015 SIA Show at the Denver Convention Center this January. Rather than sit in with the rest of the snowboard companies and be under the thumb of the convention center and SIA, Burton has opted to do their own fully immersive, 24-hour-a-day brand “activation” at Denver’s huge night club City Hall.
From January 28th-31st, Burton will transform City Hall into an authentic brand experience where retailers can enjoy three days of winter 2016 collection showings, around-the-clock hospitality, entertainment and more. . . “At Burton, we’re always challenging ourselves to look at things differently, to take a new approach, to innovate – whether it’s with our products, marketing or activations,” said Sasha Dietschi-Cooper, SVP of North American Sales. “So this year at SIA, we’re going to service our retail partners in a whole new way with an elevated presence in Denver. From ramping up the scope of product and brand stories we can show to increasing the flexibility of when dealers can view the line, our intention is to better service and inspire our retailers.”

If you didn’t make it to the Lido Theatre in Newport Beach, California last week for the premiere of Oakley’s snowboarding movie Snowboarding: For Me, you’ll have your chance to see it today. Oakley is streaming the film free all day today (November 3, 2014). If you don’t watch it today free, you’ll have to buy it in the iTunes store tomorrow. What are you waiting for? It’s only Monday. . .

Forest Bailey shows us all how great a snowboarder he is right up front with a nice little “skateboarding-in-a-park” section. No shame in that game. But then things really get going once he straps in. And while there were occasional hints at ocean going, Forest never once rode a real wave. Just watch and see. The only unfortunate bit is that darned colored cow on his snowboard. He needs to put that thing out to pasture before it takes over his life.

According to a newly launched Facebook page (birthed on October 24, 2014) and flying under the banner Fuel TV it would appear that the ground breaking action sports channel is giving it another go. The page includes the cryptic:
Coming to a device near you…The new and improved FUEL TV. Wherever, whenever you want it. Stay tuned!
Rumors are that Fuel TV’s original visionary CJ Olivares has grabbed the Fuel trademark and intellectual property back from Fox Sports and is currently rolling forward with a little help from some other former Fuel TV supporters. It will be great to see Olivares, who left Fuel in April of 2011, back at the controls of what was a ground-breaking action media effort. We’re hoping the the official word will be out soon. When it arrives we’ll update the post.

We’re seriously hoping this isn’t some harbinger of the kind of winter we’re going to have in North America this season, but Copper Mountain just pushed their scheduled opening from October 31 until November 7, 2014 thanks to what they are calling “unusually warm temperatures.”
Unusually warm temperatures have limited snow making production causing the inability to create a top-to-bottom skiing and riding experience for our planned opening day. With the forecast looking favorable, Copper Mountain’s Resort Leadership is confident the snow making team can create a quality surface for opening on Friday, Nov. 7. Top-to-bottom skiing will be open on Ptarmigan via Excelerator lift as well as on Rhapsody and Main Vein via American Eagle lift. Easy Rider will also be open for beginner terrain . . . “Mother Nature is starting to release her hold on winter and we will have a great start to the 2014/15 season,” said Gary Rodgers, President and General Manager of Copper Mountain. “Delaying Opening Day was a hard decision to make, but the quality of our snow surface and the experiences of our guests are most important.”

Elm Company co-founder Brett Wiley and Hello Distribution have signed up Jackson Hole, Wyoming pro snowboarders Mark Carter and Bryan Iguchi to collaborate on the brands new direction.
Wiley will oversee design and marketing, working closely with Iguchi, Carter, Elm’s updated athlete roster which includes Justin Fronius, Blake Paul, Nils Mindnich, Hans Mindnich, Dillon Ojo, Taku Hiraoka, and the brand’s sales reps and distributors. “Our goal and number one priority with Elm’s design is to create a functional and quality product,” explained Wiley. “As far as aesthetics go, we will be creating a more streamlined and focused collection that will be wearable for years to come.”
