Fans of the classic Nintendo 64 snowboarding game 1080, rejoice. The classic old game has been tuned up and relaunched on the DS platform. They’ve also re-tooled Excitebike 64, Mario Tennis, The Legend of Zelda® Majora’s Mask, and Mario Party 3. And they’re selling them for only $19.99.
Kind of makes us bummed that we don’t have any boring conference calls to sit through.

Chris Broderick, guitarist for the speed metal band Megadeth just updated his blog at Blabbermouth.net. He wanted everyone to know that he’s at Mammoth Mountain snowboarding . . . in a helmet. And we thought he was a head-banger.
It’s been a while since I have posted here so I figured I would try to catch up. Right now I am up in Mammoth Mountain, CA snowboarding. I invited Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH mainman] and Justis [Dave’s son] to come up but I think they are more into warm weather sports, however, they do have a run named after Dave here.

The gadget wanks at my favorite technology blog Gizmodo (specifically writer Brian Lam) are getting together at Alpine Meadows on April 5, 2008 for a techno snowboard “meetup.”
The place: Alpine Meadows. The Time: 9AM, upstairs in the main lodge cafeteria or something Nokia is coming with a fleet of N95s we can use, and Vudu and JBL are donating a prizes to give away, as are a few others who aren’t locked down yet.
This is probably the entire snowboard industry’s target market so it may be something worth checking out: Alex Birch and Rick Alden you guys listening?

Burton and Go211.com are pleased to announce a five-year partnership in which Go211 will become a global partner of the Burton Global Open Series (BGOS) and webcast all BGOS competitions and other events over the next five years.
Let’s see, the last time Burton did a big online deal for the Open series it was with a company called Lat34.com. Sadly, Lat34 ran out of money before they could webcast even one full season of Burton Opens. This deal sounds like it will last about three years longer than GO211.com will be around.

We’re not the kind to get excited when a ski resort that has banned snowboarding “until hell freezes over” finally realizes that it might be a good idea to start taking snowboard dollars. All the same, we’re glad Taos Ski Resort has decided to open on March 19, 2008, even if they’ll have mad poop behind their ears for eternity.

Damn, anyone can win a snowboard contest, but Keir Dillon delivered his own child. That is impressive.
Long story short, I think all the talk about doing kickflips and mctwists in the belly got her all excited and she couldn’t wait for the hospital. Luckily I watched a lot of the Cosby’s when I was a kid so it was all good in holding it down in the living room. I will say tying the cord with dental floss was something that they don’t teach you in health class.

We were just looking over the list of photographers who made the finals at this year’s Telus Pro Photo Shootout and realized that we only know one of them: Frode Sandbech (probably because the rest of them shooting skiing).
Without seeing any photos from the others we’re going to call it right now: Frode will win the contest because he is a photographic monster truck and his competitors are stacks of junked cars. Remind us if we’re wrong.

Amplid, the Euro snowboard and freeski company (God we hate it when companies try to do both) co-founded by former snowboard racer Peter Bauer is opening a “North American headquarter” in Mt. Hood, Oregon.
Amplid co-founder and former snowboard world champion Peter Bauer stated. “At the same time being also based in North America will have a huge impact on the brand building for Amplid as a global brand.” Brian Sites will be responsible for all sales- and operations-related tasks. Brandon Pastucka will take over marketing and team management. Tom Wallisch, Alex Martini, Steve Stepp and Seth Hill joined the global team. “The dynamic and creative environment here at Mt. Hood is a perfect seedbed for innovations both on the marketing side as well as on the technological one”, said Brian Sites who is looking forward to establish Amplid in his home market.
It just a shame about the skis.

Bob “Bubba” Haught made waves in the Colorado’s Summit County back in the late 70s because he was Snurfing all over the place. This caused him to be featured in The Rocky Mountain News on March 9, 1978 in a story titled “Snow surfer a curiosity in mountain community.”
“Apparently they didn’t think it was a real sport so they were all excited when they found me,” Haught said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if I was the first person to get interviewed about snowboarding west of the Mississippi.”
We guess that all depends on what constitutes an interview. Winterstick founder Dimitrije Milovich was featured in a story in the March 1975 issue of Newsweek and that probably has a larger circulation than the Rocky Mountain News. But, hey, Bubba who’s really keeping track of this stuff. Happy 30th story day.
