It seems to us that the toughest part about being a celebrity would be attending all the events that you have nothing to do with but have to attend because you’re a celebrity and there are celebrity photographers there to take your celebrity photo so it can be included on celebrity websites and celebrity TV shows.
Take last night for instance (April 18, 2012). Shaun White attended the premiere of a movie called Five-Year Engagement at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. He got all dressed up. He wore a black suit with a black tie. And smiled for the cameras standing next to Robert De Niro.
What could possibly bring Shaun White and Bobby De Niro together? Or, yeah. They’re both represented by Creative Artists Agency. Just think how stoked their agents are because being a celebrity and getting celebrity endorsements requires staying a celebrity. And the way you stay a celebrity is by attending celebrity events where there are celebrity photographers who take your photo so it can be included on celebrity websites and. . . Wait, did we say that already? What a vicious circle fame is.
It appears that it took the North American’s a while to figure out that bowl riding isn’t about monster airs and corking tricks. It’s about flow and line and style. But they seemed to finally figure it out. By next year’s Holy Bowly they might even be ready for reals.
Seems like Salomon/Bonfire riders Chris Carr, Louif Paradis, Chris Grenier, Taka Nakai, Scotty Arnold, Teddy Koo, Desiree Melancon, Harrison Gordon, Kohei Kudou, Ryuichi Kabeta, and Rio Tahara, have been on vacation all year long. Here is more proof from the land of the rising sun. [click to continue…]
“The action sports landscape has grown and changed dramatically since we launched the Dew Tour in 2005. The multi-stop series format was what the industry wanted and needed then. The Dew Tour changed the industry forever, taking the sports to a whole new level. The new Dew Tour, which will include three major events across Beach, City and Mountain venues, represents what the athletes and industry want and need today,” said Wade Martin, President & CEO, Alli Sports. “We believe our partnership with Mountain Dew represents one of the most unique, integrated relationships between brand and property in all of sports. This partnership extension and the new approach we created for the Dew Tour together with Mountain Dew, the athletes and the industry, truly underscores that.”
The new tour will feature stops in Ocean City, Maryland; San Francisco, California; and Breckenridge, Colorado. For the official word, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
When we heard that Burton Snowboards was hosting a party at the Palm Springs Ace Hotel during Coachella we were kind of bummed that we learned about it on a Hollywood gossip site. Then we saw who showed up and it all made sense.
Vampire Diaries couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev posed with fans at the Coachella Burton Snowboards party in Palm Springs. . . Ian was so enamored with the free Burton sweatshirt he received at the party that he posted a picture of himself wearing the sweatshirt’s logo over his posterior.
Apparently, Somerhaider and Dobrev are celebrities of some sort and celebrities reportedly help sell clothing especially when they put your logo on their ass. See how that works?
What does every backwoods, self-sustaining snowboard hideout need? An iPhone app, obviously. And that’s exactly what snowboarder Mikey Basich just launched with his Area-241 app. The app gives daily glimpse into world of legendary big mountain snowboarder and Do-It-Yourself master Mike Basich at his Area-241 and while on the road.”
“I am super stoked to see Area-241 come to life in a Mobile app” said Mike Basich, “I spend the majority of my screen time on my iPhone now-a-days and I am stoked to be able to showcase my latest projects and adventures as well as share my snowboard history and personal archives in this cool app.”

Allen Ginsberg saw the best minds of his generation “destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix” and it looks like Jed Anderson, Laurent-Nicolas Paquin, Jake Kuzyk, Darrell Mathes, Danny Larsen, Jake Olsen-Elm, Gus Engle, Nima Jalali, Nick Dirks, Jonas Michilot, and Desiree Melancon are right there with him on the Howl team. The often funny Illicit Snowboarding site has rolled through some stock photo sites and pulled together a collection of photos of women who don’t appear to know how to properly carry a snowboard (or dress for winter). It’s funny. Check it out.
