This collaboration between Supra and Berlin sneaker emporium Solebox just might be the coolest Supra Skytop III yet. Why? It they glow in the dark. Yep. Those dull green glow that has fascinated us all since we were four years old.
The SOLEBOX Skytop III upper is outfitted with a plush grey suede upper and green accents. The highlight of the stylish mid top, however, is the translucent grey, glow-in-the-dark TPR cage, heel pull, and outsole, all of which glow a bright green at night. The shoe has a green microfiber tongue and padded lining, SOLEBOX branded sock liner and aglets. It rests on a comfortable, lightweight, white SUPRAFOAM midsole, and it comes with a custom screen printed lace bag with alternate green laces.

We talked to Jamie Thomas about his involvement with New Balance Numeric and Hypebeast spoke with Westlife and 686 founder Mike West and Numeric Brand Manager Sebastian Palmer. West and Palmer discuss where the design is coming from and where the brand is headed. If you look very closely you’ll might even see some other familiar faces in this edit. Check it.
Jamie Thomas and Mike West at the LA Dodger’s Stadium Club.
Jamie Thomas, the man who took the legendary Leap of Faith, founded Zero Skateboards, Fallen Footwear, and Black Box Distribution, sits by himself for a moment in the box seats of the LA Dodger’s Stadium Club overlooking the massive construction project that is changing the face of Dodger Stadium. It’s Friday afternoon, January 4, 2013 and while Thomas works his iPhone with tattooed fingers, construction crews on the field below put the finishing touches on the 25-week-long $100 million stadium improvement project. Thanks, Magic Johnson. Behind Thomas, inside the Stadium Club proper, a select crew of skate media, core style shop owners, and employees wait for the rollout presentation of Thomas’ latest collaboration–New Balance Numeric.
The venerable 106-year-old footwear company, famous for its dedication to style, fit, and comfort, is (thanks, to some serious encouragement from Westlife Distribution and 686 founder Mike West) finally pushing into the skate shoe market. New Balance has enlisted Thomas to not only put his skateboarding stamp of approval on every detail, but also to act as Numeric’s distributor.
We all know why New Balance (and West) would want Thomas involved, but our biggest question was why Thomas, who experienced huge success in the early days of his distribution company, would be interested in helping to launch another brand that will likely take a bite out of an already overcrowded skate shoe market. Especially seeing that he already owns one footwear brand, Fallen. [click to continue…]

With Soloshot none of us have to depend on an easily distracted friend, lazy filmer, or bored girl or boyfriend. All we have to do is put the camera on a Soloshot equipped tripod, slip a transmitter on our arm, and we’ve got a dedicated filmer rolling non-stop. The only downside? The thing costs $479.00. But then again, it doesn’t whine, complain, or miss the shot . . .ever!
To help celebrate Sneaker Freaker’s10th Anniversary, editor Woody kicked down his version on the Supra Owen with the limited edition Blue Balls.
This time around we busted a nut on the lightweight Owen, combining brains, brawn, and beauty into one sweet ball breaker of a shoe. SUPRAFOAM shock absorption and a black diamond mesh upper with royal blue microfiber ensures the ride is limo quality, while the rope-a-dope lacing and speckled concrete SUPRAFOAM sole punches harder than Kojak’s cojones. Tug on the plush pink heel pull and admire the unorthodox asymmetrical color blocking as you guide your foot deep inside this super snug package. Yep, once you’ve cupped our throbbing Blue Balls in your hands you simply won’t be able to wipe the smile from your dial. Unlike our Golden Balls, these are no wet dream.”
Not that Stevie Williams needed help with his Supra color ways, but this time he got a little from Lil’ Wayne.
“I asked Wayne if he wanted to do a color way with my shoe,” Stevie said, “and he said he was up for it. Just supporting Wayne skateboarding, and having his name on my shoe, it just shows how big this skateboarding thing is. I’m excited about it.”
The “secret” behind Spy’s new Happy Lens mood enhancing technology reportedly has something to do with “long-wave blue light.” The idea is that blue light affects our bodies and can increase alertness and elevate the mood. (If you want to read one of the studies Spectral Quality of Light Modulates Emotional Brain Responses in Humans published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of Americaclick the link).
Whether we believe it or not, Spy CEO Michael Marckx is, not surprisingly, backing the technology pretty hard.
“This is the most exciting product innovation we’ve ever created,” Marckx said. “Our Happy Lens™ applies advanced technology to the eyewear world and strikes a powerful balance in sunglasses—one that can be seen and felt, enhancing experience in manifold and novel ways. It’s the single most important product breakthrough I have ever worked on.”
The new Happy Lenses will officially debut in the Spy’s 2013 line in styles like the Crosstown Collection, Fade to Black, and the high performance cycling glasses. We’re currently testing the Happy Lens in the new Discord frame (pictured above). We’ll let you know if we notice anything “happy” about them. For the official word from Spy, follow the jump.
