Don’t worry. Bryan Iguchi is not using his new MTN Approach Pro Model skis to go down the mountain, only to go up. In fact, the skis (which have permanently attached climbing skis) aren’t even designed for going downhill. The idea behind the MTN Approach skis (and it’s a good one) is that there is no reason for your snowboarding to suffer just because you want to earn your own turns. As MTN Approach says:
Until now, the split board was the main tool available for snowboarders seeking the backcountry experience. The split board has grown in popularity and has seen advances in equipment, however, we have taken a new approach to answering the need for performance and efficiency. The MTNApproach System is the most effective alternative for riders who want the feel and reliability of a legit snowboard while riding downhill.
Get it? If you’re going to climb all the way up there, why ride down on a board that is two pieces bolted together? The Bryan Iguchi Pro Model system (which sells for $829.00) pretty much everything you need including the MTNApproach folding skis, and integral backpack. Snowboarders weighing up to 250 lbs can use the boards. Though we’re guessing after a few trips into the back country they’ll start to shed the pounds. For more info click the link.

European snowboarding pioneer and film legend Regis Rolland has developed a new “dual entry” binding for APO Snowboards and in this edit he explains exactly how it works and why he thinks it will make snowboarding simpler for everyone. It’s all about “technicity,” apparently.

If you don’t remember, ask you dad, but there was time (back in the glory days of the Upland Pipeline) when it seemed everyone rolled on Kryptonics. Big, soft, fast primary colored RGB Kryptonics. And now, thanks to Dusters California (a.k.a Dwindle’s retro longboard division) the wheels are back with The Force.
Three durometers of wheels will be released in the original sizes and shapes, plus one new size. The iconic Kryptonics Star*Trac 70mm red wheel was faster than any other wheel and able to roll over small boulders. The original will be developed and enhanced by adding a 75mm size to the new Kryptonics Star*Trac wheel collection. Perfect for your favorite downhill run, boardwalk cruise or your daily commute. Roll fast, roll long!
Want to get that authentic retro roll, then these just might be the wheels you’re looking for. For the official word from Dusters, follow the jump.

Today, October 2, 2013, Oakley is launching the latest update to their Bluetooth connected, heads-up display goggle, the Airwave 1.5. The goggle (which is now for sale in Oakley and Apple.com stores) features a Recon heads-up display allowing users view data as if it were on a 14 inch monitor located about five feet away. What data can viewed on that screen? Pretty much everything you’d need to know while riding, including: current temperature, speed, location, and music control. But the Airwave 1.5, has built in GPS so it will also keep track of vertical feet and where your friends are using Buddy Tracking (if they’re using the Oakley app for iPhone of Android). The display can also notify you to incoming phone calls and texts.
We’re still not sure people need this much data distracting them while they’re plowing their way down the hill, but from what we’ve seen, it works pretty well. The downside: the goggle retails for $649. For the official word from Oakley (and more photos), follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Purdue University nuclear engineering student Joe Carabetta is one of growing number of Americans who apparently feel that exerting any physical power whatsoever to move his body through space is simply too hard. Why exercise when you can let the magic of electricity do the work for you? That may be one of the unstated reasons he and a friend created the Kickr electric skateboard, according to a story in USA Today.
Kickr is a modular skateboard attachment that has transformed Carabetta’s Original carving longboard into an electric board that can reach speeds up to 25 mph. The product name also is the name of the company. . . When you step on a custom throttle pad, the device sends a signal to the motor that spins the wheel. The motor assembly employs a truck axle to connect to the skateboard. The device can adjust to multiple wheel sizes.
Carabetta and his partner think they can sell the motors for $400 a piece and that’s much cheaper than a little rascal.

In the consumer electronics world new Bluetooth 4.0 speakers seem to be popping up every time we turn our heads. Even in the action sports space the competition for portable audio solutions is heating up. Nixon launched their Blaster speaker earlier this summer and now headphone maker SOL Republic is answering back with a collaboration with Motorola called Deck.
Like many other Bluetooth speakers Deck turns your phone into a mini boom box. Where the Deck differs is in what SOL Republic calls “Heist Mode.” This Bluetooth setting allows the speaker to pair with up to five different Bluetooth devices at once. When a song is playing, control of the Deck can be stolen by any other paired device. Don’t like the song your friend is playing, press play on your phone and launch something from your digital music collection.
While this control swapping may cause occasional panics at the disco, it’s actually pretty rad once you begin messing around with it. Say you’re skating a spot and are sick of your music. One of your friends can send his songs to the Deck. Or, if you’re just hanging out at the beach with friends you all can share music from your phones without having to pair and unpair or trade songs around. If you’re at home the Deck has mini jacks for both audio in and out so you can play Heist Mode through your home stereo or just blast some music off your phone. [click to continue…]

Z-Flex Skateboards and stylish men’s grooming products Uppercut Deluxe and collaborated on a skateboard that comes with two combs and some quality pomade.
“We are so proud to be able to collab with Z-Flex on this Mr Chipper Deluxe model. I remember one of the very first skate photos I saw as a kid was Jay Adams on a Z-Flex board which always sticks in my mind as pure and raw skateboarding; when style and attitude was everything! It’s so rad to come together and create this board years later to combine our passions of skateboarding and barbering in a slick and destroy model!”- says, Luke Newman, one of the founders of Uppercut Deluxe.

Have you seen Union Binding Company’s Contact Pro lately? Apparently, Gigi Ruf logged 200 days of on-snow testing and motored through 20 different prototypes on the way to creating this beautiful binder.
Aside from a soft EVA cushion, the only binding-to-board contact here is a small ring around the disk. A smaller disk means a smaller binding footprint. A smaller footprint allows your board to flex and perform more naturally. . . Compatible with any traditional 4×4 mounting system, the 3 Hole, along with Burton snowboards featuring The Channel, you can mount Union Bindings on any board you choose.
Union loves this binding so much that they created a special section of their website just to tell you all about it. Can you believe a snowboard binding manufacturer would go to those lengths to communicate with consumers? At Union, they do it for you.
