by The Editors on October 21, 2013

Artist and skateboarder Ed Templeton talks to Rumore Magazine about his show A Gentle Collision at the Jerome Zodo Contemporary in Milan, Italy. It’s good to occasionally go behind the photos and paintings to see how Templeton’s mind works.

A Good Commercial With Skateboarding

by The Editors on October 17, 2013

It seems that most every time skateboarding is featured in a television commercial they get it all wrong. Norms Restaurants seems to get it all right with this little intimidation commercial staring Hoopla Skateboard’s Annika Vrklan (she didn’t even have to take off her bunny ears).

Fabiano Rodrigues’ The Self Portrait Project

by The Editors on October 7, 2013

Desillusion Magazine is presenting a film by Guiherme Guimaraes titled The Self Portrait Project.

Fabiano Rodrigues was born in Santos, São Paulo, 1974. He approached photography through skateboarding, first appearing in photographs as a professional skateboarder, while performing maneuvers through out Brazil and Europe. The interest in composition, in motion capture and architecture, propelled him to photograph other skaters in the city, so as to be recognized both as a photographer and as a skater. In search of a language capable of accomplishing his expressive and performatic ambitions, Fabiano has been developing since 2010 his own research of self-portraits, all clicked through his skateboard performances. . . Shooting with a Hasselblad camera using a remote control, he records the apex of his own motion in a previously planned framework. These photographs are always one off prints, exploring the history and repertoire of skateboarding movements, particularly its relationship with the city, its architecture and urban furniture.

The rest is pretty self explanatory.

Kryptonics Star Trac Wheels Reborn

by The Editors on October 7, 2013

Startrac Wheels 2

If you don’t remember, ask you dad, but there was time (back in the glory days of the Upland Pipeline) when it seemed everyone rolled on Kryptonics. Big, soft, fast primary colored RGB Kryptonics. And now, thanks to Dusters California (a.k.a Dwindle’s retro longboard division) the wheels are back with The Force.

Three durometers of wheels will be released in the original sizes and shapes, plus one new size. The iconic Kryptonics Star*Trac 70mm red wheel was faster than any other wheel and able to roll over small boulders. The original will be developed and enhanced by adding a 75mm size to the new Kryptonics Star*Trac wheel collection. Perfect for your favorite downhill run, boardwalk cruise or your daily commute. Roll fast, roll long!

Want to get that authentic retro roll, then these just might be the wheels you’re looking for. For the official word from Dusters, follow the jump.

ESPN Cuts Global X Games

by The Editors on October 3, 2013

X Game LogoThis didn’t take long. Seems like only yesterday we were saying how there was no reason for ESPN to expand their X Games into the global market because there is no global market for what they do. And now, according to a story on SportsBusiness International it appears they have finally agreed.

An ESPN statement read: “We are proud to have run world-class competitions for both the athletes and spectators; however, the overall economics of these events do not provide a sustainable future path. . . The company remains fully committed to the X Games brand and its full-scale competitions in Aspen, Colorado and Austin, Texas – its newest host city – and we will continue to distribute these premier events around the world.”

You don’t say. It was a nice try though, huh?
