Denmark’s Skateducate is working to get more girls skateboarding by creating a camp where girls can skate together, and they’ve taken to crowd sourcing site IndieGogo to raise some funding. Here’s what they’re about:
We seek to encourage communities across age, cultural and social differences. By making camps in a local community we are making sure, that the girls get to know the best places to skate near their homes, and they get to meet other girls from their area, with whom they can continue to skate with, when the SKATEDUCATE camp is over.

World Skateboarding Grand Prix is taking the World Skateboarding Rider Cup to the five boroughs this summer: Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island this summer. Beginning July 12, 2014 at the LES Skatepark, the World Skateboarding Rider Cup allows local skateboarders to form teams a represent their boroughs in a jam format contest for a shot at a $10,000 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa to compete in the World Skateboarding Rider Cup championships during the 2014 Kimberley Diamond Cup.
Teams must be made up of four riders, with an alternate in case of injury, all from the same borough. Two, four or eight teams will represent each district. Teams will compete in skateparks divided into four sections. Each section will belong to a rider on each team and they will be judged head-to-head. Skaters will be judged based on the number of tricks landed, difficulty of tricks and overall impression.

Handplant skateboard shop in Laguna Beach, California is presenting a collection of “strictly skate derived” art from Jon Steele titled Teenagers From Mars on April 5, 2014.
Jon Steele is a renaissance man, writer, artist, photographer, skater, surfer, wanderer; his past and present work has taken him all over the world including China, Guatemala, New York, the Galapagos as well as many other spots and working with great and amazing athletes and talent. Its been non stop traveling, producing art and shooting photos and video closely with the Sector9 surf and skate team, XGames/ESPN site, surfing, skate and SUP magazines and websites as well as many more companies. . .”I like the fact that skateboarding was an outlaw activity growing up as a kid and I’m blessed to have gone through that period in time of skating,” says Steele. “I think ‘Teenagers from Mars’ is a show that shows the fun and outlaw side of skateboarding and being different growing up then others. I would have never thought that a piece of wood with some wheels on it would have taken me all over the world.”
Teenagers From Mars show opens April 5, 2014 at 7 PM. Handplant is located at 1025 South Coast Highway, in Laguna Beach, California.
