Skateboarding hardest, fastest, gnarliest pool party went down on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, California. It was the 10th Annual Vans Pool Party and it featured the freshest coping capers in years.

Fifteen-year-old Tristan Rennie claimed first place, winning his first-ever Pro Pool Party title while standing alongside fellow young stars Josh Rodriguez, 22, and Cory Juneau, 14. Skate Hof

On the evening of May 15, 2014 Gregg Carroll, Jim Muir, Steve Olson, Lance Mountain, Natas Kaupas, Laurie Turner DeMott, and Ellen Oneal Deason were inducted into the International Skateboarding Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at The Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Fausto Vitello, J.Grant Brittain and Pipeline Skatepark were also honored with Icon Awards.

“As a kid from Kansas who started skateboarding in 1985, watching skaters like Lance and Natas, get inducted to the Skateboarding Hall of Fame is an amazingly surreal event,” said Josh Friedberg, Executive Director of IASC. “Hearing the stories and seeing firsthand the connections between all of the skaters is incredibly exciting and surprisingly emotional. I’m honored to be a part of producing such a fun event that is rapidly turning into skateboarding’s family reunion. See you next year!”

Greg Hunt Roams With Leica

by The Editors on May 2, 2014

You know Greg Hunt from all his amazing skateboarding videos. But some people don’t. That’s why Leica’s Let Us Roam project is helping to get the word out. Like this:

Greg Hunt is a director and cinematographer that has shot some of the most influential skateboarding films of our time. He discovered photography and filmmaking while he was a pro skateboarder for Stereo Skateboards. After the making of the film “A Visual Sound”, he knew he wanted to buy a 16mm film camera. This purchase pushed him to take cinematography seriously and he’s never put the camera down since. Greg is now shooting the very first Vans skateboarding film and is in his final year of production. This film follows his path from skateboarder to filmmaker and offers a peek into his filmmaking process behind the Vans skate film.

Pretty good, huh?

Tony Hawk previews his new Shred Session “endless runner” game on the iPhone for Arcade Sushi.

Based on what Mr. 900 has said, Shred Session is going to be a free-to-play endless runner. The game will be vertically-oriented, so you will be using one-handed swipe gestures and perfectly timed taps to ollie, grind and land. The game will offer five different levels and six famous skaters to play as, including Tony Hawk, Chris Cole, Aaron Homoki, Lizzie Armanto, David Gonzalez and Tony’s prodigious son, Riley Hawk.

Free to play? We’re on it. Downloads for iOS and Android going live this summer.
