Every since Kelly Slater busted out his frontside 720 in France last month it has become obvious that although skateboarders and snowboarders had figured out air rotation nomenclature years ago, some of the brightest minds in surfing were still having trouble sorting it all out. Now, thanks to Pierre’s little clip, this whole chapter can come to a peaceful conclusion. . . maybe.

Our choice for winter shoes just got a whole lot bigger as Vans announces an expanded Mountain Edition footwear collection which now include shoes from the Classics, California, and Surf collections.
Vans Classics returns with eight weatherized color ways including the Era MTE, Sk8-Hi MTE and introducing the Old Skool MTE. The Era MTE surfaces in two earth-toned variations – Castlerock/Tobacco Brown and Forest Night/Tobacco Brown – outfitted in pig suede, leather and wool. The Old Skool MTE and Sk8-Hi MTE exhibit the same material mix across Black/Tobacco and Decadent Chocolate/Tobacco Brown color-ups. Additionally, the Sk8-Hi MTE rounds out the Classics collection with two women-specific styles in Black and Tan featuring knitted geometric trim accents.

Z-Flex brought two legendary skateboarders together to create the first board in the company’s Master Crafted Series. The first board was designed and built by Jay Adams and Paul Schmitt.
The ‘Masters’ of skateboarding are the pioneers of the sport, the skaters who paved the way for skateboarding today, and the skaters that are still out there ripping 20+ years later. There’s only one ‘Master’ that we could possibly start this series with, and that’s the original seed of skateboarding himself, Jay Adams, in collaboration with the legendary skateboard craftsman, Paul Schmitt. . . Jay and Paul worked hand in hand in creating a unique board for Jay’s style to help him skate better than he’s ever skated before. . . “Jay was super stoked about the Master Crafted Jay Adams deck,” said his wife Tracy Adams. “He said it was the first time in his life he ever designed a board himself. He knew EXACTLY what size board, what shape and length the nose and tail should be, where the wheel wells should be…..EVERYTHING.”

According to a newly launched Facebook page (birthed on October 24, 2014) and flying under the banner Fuel TV it would appear that the ground breaking action sports channel is giving it another go. The page includes the cryptic:
Coming to a device near you…The new and improved FUEL TV. Wherever, whenever you want it. Stay tuned!
Rumors are that Fuel TV’s original visionary CJ Olivares has grabbed the Fuel trademark and intellectual property back from Fox Sports and is currently rolling forward with a little help from some other former Fuel TV supporters. It will be great to see Olivares, who left Fuel in April of 2011, back at the controls of what was a ground-breaking action media effort. We’re hoping the the official word will be out soon. When it arrives we’ll update the post.

Tony Hawk’s Ride Channel (one of YouTube’s top 1 percent most viewed channels) has partnered with Mark Ecko’s Complex Media for a brand new home on the web as TheRideChannel.com. The new site joins Complex’s network of websites that include such staples as Complex.com, Sneakerfreaker.com, SlamXhype.com, and a slew of other websites that appeal to pop conscious young males.
Building from the content already featured on the RIDE Channel on YouTube, Complex Media’s editorial team will support news, tips & tricks, how-to and video coverage featuring some of the biggest names in the skate industry including Tony Hawk, Jamie Thomas, Lance Krall, SLAP, Skatepark of Tampa, Mike Manzoori, Frank Black, Rob Brink, Erica Yary, Kevin Staab, Thurston Moore, Chris Cole, Stevie Williams, amongst others.

TED talks are a lot like the food served in high school cafeterias: it looks interesting at first, but after a while it all begins taste the same. It could be someone talking about teaching crows to buy food, or how skateboarding can build an adult man, but the pacing, verbal styling, and Powerpoints make it look and sound the same.
In this TEDx Orange Coast, Element founder Johnny Schillereff attempts to explains his views on leadership through innocent passion. It definitely doesn’t taste the same as all the other TED talks. In fact, we’re still trying to figure out what the hell Johnny was talking about with his “no tipping points” and “upside down tipping points.” And what about the drum thing? If you know, please share the info.

Primitive Skateboardings‘ Paul Rodriguez just launched a new official collaboration deck with the one and only Tupac Shakur.
“Working with friends on insanely fun projects is seriously the best feeling,” says Primitive Skateboards co-founder and pro, Paul Rodriguez. “I can’t believe that we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with the late, great Tupac Shakur! I hope Pac is up there with that big smile of his digging this board as much as I do. I feel blessed!”
Not exactly sure how P-Rod got to “work with” 2Pac, but the package certainly looks good. The deck comes in 8 and 8.25 widths and includes a hologram 2Pac sticker, or course.

New York Times technology writer Conor Dougherty hung out with Greg and Jill Henderson, creators of the Hendo Hoverboard. It’s not exactly ready for the Street League, but it does hover and it is a board.
It hovers about an inch above the ground. But when the 190-pound visitor stood atop the 100-pound board, one gentle push was enough to send him spinning across the room over a cushion of air.
Nice to see that is possible. Now, we’ll have to wait until they figure out how to make them turn.
