Hawk Foundation Celebrates 500th Skatepark

by The Editors on June 15, 2016

Tony Hawk is a busy, generous man. And no where is this more evident than when you look at all the skateboard parks he’s helped build (500 so far). One of them is in Burlington, Vermont and Hawk travelled there last week to help celebrate the city’s newly named Andy “A-Dog” Williams Skatepark.

“It was an honor to be in Burlington for the A-Dog Skatepark naming ceremony and to skate with the locals,” said Tony Hawk. “We’re proud to have been involved with this project—it’s a great park that resulted from a strong grassroots effort from local advocates and a true commitment from the city. It also represents the 500th park to open with assistance from THF. Here’s to the next 500!”

Get Rad Remembering Ray Underhill

by The Editors on June 3, 2016

GR4R_2016_FLIER-2

Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Aaron Homoki, Ben Raybourn, Lizzie Armanto, and a great crew of skateboard legends are heading down South on June 19, 2016 for a celebration of the life of Ray Underhill with an 80s themed Get Rad For Ray at the Kennesaw Skateboard Park in Kennesaw, Georgia.

A Wilmington, North Carolina native, Underhill was a member of the infamous Bones Brigade squad of the 1980s, a teammate of Hawk’s, and known for his smooth skating style. But his friends remember him best for his kindness, wit, and dedication—his true enduring legacies. . . “Ray was a great friend,” said Hawk. “We miss him every day, so we’re coming to Kennesaw to remember him the best way we know—to skate in his honor while helping others!”

Ray died in 2008 after a long battle with Chordoma, a rare form of spinal cancer. Funds raised by the event will go to the Ray Underhill Foundation. Just posting this reminds us of how much we enjoyed every minute we spent with Ray. For the official word from the Tony Hawk Foundation, please follow the jump.
