On February 15, 2008 Wasserman Media Group, LLC took over administrative control of the Skateboard.com domain and recently posted the following jump page on both its 411vm.com and Skateboard.com sites saying that the two sites will “soon be one.”

Skateboard.com was one of the first skateboarding sites on the web and was originally registered by Tum Yeto’s Tod Swank and partners on June 4, 1996. For a while it was a mailorder site and then slowly evolved into a content and user generated content site covering skateboarding. But it never gained all that much traction in either form.
Now, it is part of WMG’s Sportsnet.com family which also includes: motocross.com, surfspot.com, 411vm.com, freeskier site newschoolers.com, and the offical P Rod, Jereme Rogers and TK community sk8site.com. Follow the jump for the official press release.

From the Catholic News Service:
When Pope Benedict XVI returns to the Vatican, he’ll be toting a gift not generally associated with an 81-year-old pontiff. He’ll take home the “official papal skateboard,” a gift from the youths of New York.
The gift and a contest to design it started with a remark made by a teen member of the skateboard club at St. Elizabeth Parish in Washington Heights, a hilly neighborhood in northern Manhattan.
Father Peter Pomposello is a skateboarder and the parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth. As he recalled it, he was talking about the papal visit with the club members and they began to ask him questions about why the pope was coming and what he would do in New York.
Peace be with you, and also unto you, roller Pope.

From the San Jose Mercury News:
One of the nation’s best young skateboarders lives in San Jose, but is never allowed to grind, ollie or kick-flip unless his folks are around.
Harry Murphy, who also has his own sponsor, is only 8 years old.
“I still don’t like to let him out of my sight when he’s skating though,” said dad Paul Murphy.
Even under careful supervision, with a helmet always attached, little Harry is living his dream. In the first grade, he wrote an essay about his desire to become a sponsored skater. A year later he is one.
“As soon as I started,” Harry said, pushing back red-brown curls spilling from his helmet, “I wanted someone to sponsor me.”

Failed pro snowboarder Rick McCrank is part of the new push by Peta2, the worlds largest youth animal rights organization, to promote being nice to animals.
Shown on his skateboard doing a noseblunt in 15 sequential shots, McCrank goes on to say, “I am a professional skateboarder, entrepreneur, and father. For me, eating meat feels unnatural.”
I can’t say I disagree, Rick.

Cullen Poythress, the new marketing manager at DVS Shoes is thanking Podium Distribution for moving him out to Cali when they did. Poythress, who previously worked for Surf Expo in Atlanta, moved out of his place one week to the day before the tornado destroyed his apartment at the Fulton Cotton Mills Lofts. “DVS saved my life,” Poythress said. “Literally.”
Poythress’ apartment window is the fourth from right in the bottom right hand corner of this Atlanta Journal-Constitution photo. “The tornado touched down on top of the place and ripped the whole roof off,” he said. “My new flat screen would’ve been laterd.”
As happy as he is with the new job, he’s also happy to have left the ATL. “We got out just in time,” he says. Now, lets just hope for no earthquakes.

Transworld Business is reporting that the seminal core skateboard magazine Big Brother will make it’s return in digital format as part of Jeff Tremaine’s new website Jackassworld.com.
“Right now the plan is that Big Brother will be a section of Jackassworld,” says Tremaine. “We’re going to put up all the back issues and anything we do skateboarding-related will be housed there as well.” . . . New content for Big Brother will focus mostly on skateboarding, and most, if not all of the O.G. Big Brother lineup are lined up to contribute, including Dave Carnie, Sean Cliver, Rick Kosick, Dimitry Elyashkevich, Earl Parker, and Tremaine himself. “Hopefully Marc McKee and everyone else from the original crew will start contributing,” says Tremaine.
We have missed it, but we’re guessing it will never be the same. Because as we all know, money changes everything.

Lots of changes going on in the Sole Tech web world lately, including this update to the Emerica site:
The Team page has a new look and, more importantly, some new sections. First, there’s Community, in which you can browse through all of the content recently uploaded by All Emericans; as well as search for specific news, photos, videos and even users in the search box at the top.
Right next to Community, there’s a new Channels section, in which you can stay updated on specific groups. Right now, there are only two channels available: Emerican Royalty (mostly skaters who work here) and Emerica Europe, but more will be coming soon!
