The LA Times (and many of our Twitter friends) report that the Venice, California skateboard park is now officially open to the public.
The $3.4-million skate park was paid for by the sale of surplus city property in Venice and development fees, and did not draw from the general fund. It will be named after legendary Z-Boy skater Dennis “Polar Bear” Agnew, who died about five years ago, said Ger-I Lewis, the skate park coordinator and executive director of the Venice Surf and Skateboard Assn.
According to the Wall Street Journal researchers in the US and Ethiopia released information on fossils today from a 4.4 million year old “human forbear” that they say show that early humans were “more modern than scholars assumed.”
An international research team led by paleoanthropologist Tim White at the University of California, Berkeley, unveiled remains from 36 males, females and young of an ancient prehuman species called Ardipithecus ramidus, unearthed in the Awash region of Ethiopia since 1994.
Obviously, goofy-footers came later as evolutionary improvements to primitive man.
Dogtown originator C.R. Stecyk III has just designed a blue skies and palm trees version of the Nike Air Max LeBron VII, according to a post on Nice Kicks.
As with previous customized Air Max LeBron VII colorways, this shoe also owns a plethora of qualities that are inspired by James’s life and the respective city. For example, its colors represent the blue skies (side panels) and the rich bronze of the soil in Pueblo (predominance of the upper). Other elements such as palm trees and telephone poles also pay tribute to the city of Los Angeles.
Keith Hufnagel and Hanni El Khatib have created a Huf version of the 80s Converse Skidgrip and they look very friendly.
We wanted to reference the skate and surf vibe of the 1980s and the Skidgrip was a great, authentic foundation,” Hufnagel said.
The shoes will cost $75 a pair, come in sizes 3.5 to 13, and help out the world on the way. A percentage of the net wholesale price of the shoe will reportedly go “to help fight AIDS in Africa.”

The pop blog Cool Hunting has rounded up all things Where the Wild Things Are from Girl Skateboards to Urban Outfitter concept stores. Seems like this one is rolling out all around Spike Jonze. The only thing’s we’re really interested in are the 2″ tall Kurbrick figures and maybe the Lakai shoes. . . But check it all.
Watch this San Francisco Police officer (Schwab #2099) act like “a fucking dick,” with Zack Snow on the final day of shooting Baysick.
Now I’m gonna act like a fucking dick. . . Resist again and I’m going to break your arm like a twig. And then you can treat me like the asshole you think I am
And to think, these are the kind of people our tax dollars go to support. It is ridiculous. Click here to file a complaint against the officer.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered someone had thrown a rock through the front door of the store to get inside. . . A manager told police thieves stole nearly $5,000 in merchandise including skateboards, wheels and trucks, which connect wheels to the actual boards.
This is apparently the second time in a week that the shop has been hit.
A Fresno City College student in Fresno, California was simply carrying a skateboard across the campus when a City College safety officer demanded that the student hand over the skateboard.
Cell phone video shows officers restraining the skateboarder and telling another student, wearing a white tank top, to back away. . . When he refuses, a city college officer is seen in the video chasing after him, while another appears to be swinging a baton.
Some witnesses said there were 10 to 15 officers involved. After some baton swinging and macing one student was arrested for “resisting arrest.” They always seem to use that one don’t they?
