The Mayday Mob: Skateboarding & Firestarting

by The Editors on June 8, 2010

Korey WardKorey Ward, 24, the reported “ring-leader” of a Yakima, Washington “skateboard group” called the Mayday Mob was convicted of six counts of second degree arson on Monday, June 7, 2010 for a slew of fires set at homes and businesses during the summer of 2007, according to a story in the Yakima Herald.

Authorities believe Ward was the ringleader of the Mayday Mob. They also believe members of the Mayday Mob were involved in as many as 10 fires set between April 2006 and October 2007, including a blaze that destroyed 10,000 bins at a CPC International fruit warehouse on Occidental Road on Nov. 12, 2006. . . . Other properties included the campus of Robertson Elementary School in Yakima, other local fruit warehouses, and a power pole and two dozen juniper trees at the corner of 80th Avenue and Zier Road.

Another member of the crew Eric Protsman, 19, who testified against Ward in this trial, says that in the beginning the Mob was about skateboarding and nothing else, according to statements made to the Yakima Herald in April.

“There were eight of us, we were all skateboarders and that’s all we did,” Protsman said from behind a glass window at the jail’s visitor area. “It was a skateboarding group that turned into a gang.

Ward could spend up to seven years in prison for his crimes. Do they have skateparks in prison?

Eric Koston Wants Skaters To Get Paid

by The Editors on June 8, 2010

100607-Eric-Koston-420OutSome jock and ball fan/blog site called Fanhouse interviewed Eric Koston at the Maloof Money Cup over the weekend and report that Frosty says that professional skateboarders don’t make enough prize money. Here’s a little of what he told them about prize money and Dyrdek’s Street League.

“You know, it’s always a weird thing talking about money, right? But it’s like, how much work do they put in to creating a TV show? A show is the product, the product is what sells to all the sponsors, so it’s that sort of trickle-down effect. But the guys who are actually putting on the show should actually get rewarded for putting on the fucking show . . . “Well, I’ve talked to Rob and I’ve known Rob for about 17 years. I’ve known him for a long time, and we’ve always discussed how bad it is, but recently when he’s taken the initiative to get this thing going, he’s really thought it out: What’s wrong with what’s currently going on and how do you make it better? And he figured it out, I know it, we all know it. It’s just, how do we do it? So we have to sort of band together to do it. That’s the reality. Everybody’s got to be part of it and if we all are one voice, then you have to talk to that person.”

All true. All true.

Kate Hudson’s Saucy Mall Grab

by The Editors on June 4, 2010

Article-1283889-09E11Dbb000005Dc-372 224X679There is nothing like hitting the streets for a little NYC skate action in wedge heels. Nobody does it better than Kate Hudson, according to story in the Daily Mail.

Running in heels is one thing, but Kate Hudson took it to a whole new level as she attempted to go skateboarding in a pair of wedge heels. . . And the actress’ outfit – a short shirt dress – was not exactly appropriate for action either. . . But thankfully the ridiculous scene was all for show on the Manhattan set of Something Borrowed, her new movie. . . The 31-year-old has been pictured in a series of smart outfits while on location in New York. . . . Kate is starring in the film as Darcy, a beautiful bratty bride who gets everything she wants.

Apparently, she doesn’t want to know how to hold a skateboard properly. . .
