Bob Burnquist is continuing the development of his Vista, California Mega-ramp complex with the addition of a new “Chipoltle Research Garden” according to a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune.
With the Chipotle Research Garden, the purpose is different. This new garden will not only provide food for Burnquist and his family but research data for Chipotle Mexican Grill, as the company will grow new varieties of tomatoes and bell peppers not used in its restaurants. Food from the garden also will be donated to a program for teenage mothers in Vista.
No one grows “green” sponsors better than Farmer Bob. What next, a new eco-house project sponsored by Home Depot?

The security guards called LAPD officers … who arrested and booked Muska for felony vandalism.
A California State Parks official is now saying that the Watts Towers Skate Park (which has been in the works for almost three years) is “being rushed,” according to a story in the LA Times.
“Something of this magnitude deserves a full environmental review. It should be a much more open and democratic process,” Sean Woods, the state parks department’s superintendent for the Los Angeles sector, said Monday. “This is being hastily put together and rushed through.” . . The state leases the towers to Los Angeles, which is responsible for maintaining them and operating them as a cultural site.
If kids growing up without a safe spot to skate is “rushing” we’d had to see what Woods believes is a reasonable pace for developing a small concrete space in which to roll.
Proving it’s not all MMA and rally car driving at FUEL TV these days, the action cable network announced today that they will run live coverage of the surf, skate, and BMX finals from the NIke US Open of Surfing on Sunday August 7, 2011 beginning at 1:30 PM PST.

If we had cable TV we’d be looking forward to being astonished. Follow the jump for more details. [click to continue…]
We’ve always known the guy’s had skills, but Steve Olson’s latest gig as Boardwalk Empire star Paz de la Huerta’s strolling companion was even hard for us to imagine. Funny thing is, the British tabloids don’t know who “the mystery man” is.
He looks old enough to be her father, is so badly turned out he could be accused of not owning a mirror, and carries a skateboard to perhaps retain a sense of his youth. . . But believe it all not this grey-haired man, who appears to be stuck in a timewarp has someone managed to tempt 26-year-old actress Paz de la Huerta. . . The Boardwalk Empire didn’t seem to care who was watching today as she shared a very public embrace with the mystery man in New York City.
Apparently, the Daily Mail gossip pages are still being written by shriveled up old ladies. To us it looks like Steve is keeping the whole “Mr. Lucky” thing rolling along quite nicely. Click the link for more photos.
Put him in a house with no corners and tell him to . . . Turns out the PAS House that etnies founder Pierre-André Senizergue set up at the Public Domaine show at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris wasn’t just an architectural fantasy after all. According to a story in Curbed LA the designs are for a real house that Pierre-André is planning to build in Malibu, California (see model above). Quoting the A | N Blog Archpaper.com:
The project, located at the top of Las Flores Canyon in Malibu, will by sometime next year be the home of skateboarder Pierre Andre Senizergues (hence the name PAS), a former world champion skater, and owner of skateboard company Sole Technology. It’s being created by designer Gil Lebon Delapointe and LA architect Francois Perrin, who for the prototype of the living area bent plywood, previously soaked in water, using a traditional skateboard ramp fabrication technique.
A doctor from Getzville, New York has been arrested for the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old skateboarder Alexandria M. Rice, according to a story on WGRZ.com. Alexandria was skateboarding home from work at 11:20 PM, according to Buffalo News, when she was hit and thrown 60 feet down the road.
Police arrested and charged Dr. James G. Corasanti, 55, Getzville, with DWI and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. . . Authorities say Rice, was riding her skateboard near 573 Heim Rd. when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. . . A police investigation located Dr. Corasanti at a gas station on Millersport Highway. Police say a 2010 BMW was later located in the Dr. Corasanti’s garage.
Sure, doctors are people, too. But to think that someone who has taken the Hippocratic Oath could drive away after running down a girl on a skateboard blows our minds. If Corasanti is guilty (he is currently out of jail on a $100,000 bond) this should be a career ender for the gastroenterologist and clinical associate professor of medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Our thoughts are with Alexandria’s family and friends.
As you may have noticed we’ll watch anything having to do with OG skate photographer Grant Brittain. So, here is episode four of Brittain’s Vault in which he discusses old photos of the Dew Tour’sChris Miller.
