Baker Skateboards Leaves Blitz For BBD

by The Editors on October 1, 2011

Baker SkateboardsBeginning today (October 1, 2011) Baker Skateboards will be distributed by Andrew Reynolds’ co-owned Baker Boys Distribution company and will no longer be part of Blitz Distribution.

“It’s been a great run over at Blitz Distribution with Per and everyone there,” said Baker CEO Andrew Reynolds. “I want to thank them all for everything they have done for me and Baker over the years and also for helping me bring Baker Home.”

Blitz President Per Welinder is obviously proud of the part his company played in the development of the Baker brand:

“With Baker I’m happy to see that Blitz has once again been a contributor to the worldwide success of a skate brand, and I am certain BBD will do a great job carrying the Baker torch moving forward,” Welinder said. “With Baker departing Blitz will continue in its tradition of incubating and distributing brands and will now focus its efforts on the growth in the Sk8Mafia and JSLV brands in particular.”

It was a homecoming of sorts for Baker Skateboards. The company will join Deathwish Skateboards, Shake Junt, Heroin Skateboards, and Thunder Trucks at Baker Boys Distribution. Seems like the only missing piece to Reynolds’ Baker Boys puzzle is Altamont. . . hmmm?

Nyjah Huston’s Double Rock

by The Editors on September 29, 2011

Thrasher Magazine grabbed followed Nyjah Huston around the park for awhile and as they said, “Nyjah Huston filmed this Double Rock in about the same time it would take you to watch a shitty Adam Sandler movie.” We’re not surprised at all but it is crazy impressive all the same.

Break The Bank: Not So Bad

by The Editors on September 27, 2011

All we can say about this Break The Bank video teaser from filmmaker Justin Dersham is that this is the only time we’ve ever watched a mountainboarding edit and thought for a moment, “Hey, this doesn’t look so bad.” But then they started riding them on the street and. . . we realized how wrong we were.

KCDC Featured In The New York Times

by The Editors on September 26, 2011

KcdcWilliamsburg’s KCDC skate shop got a smooth write up in the New York Times last Thursday (September 22, 2011) and we missed it. Owner Amy Gunther did it well.

If KCDC’s name is cryptic (Ms. Gunther wouldn’t say what it means), its philosophy is simple: Nurture the skateboarding community, and it will nurture you, a symbiotic relationship that has flourished since the store opened in 2001, when Williamsburg was not as hip, or as safe. . . “We’ve grown organically,” Ms. Gunther, 37, said. “Skaters who used to come here as kids 10 years ago come back as adults today.”

In the words of LA Reid: Amy Gunther is the truth.

The Tank Tread Skateboard From MIT

by The Editors on September 26, 2011

We’re sure the US Goverment will find some way to militarize MIT student Charles Guan’s Landbearshark treaded all-terrain skateboard. We’re pretty sure he could put a rocket launcher on it, but it would still be nearly impossible to ollie.
