One Distribution Gets Sued

by The Editors on July 12, 2012

One Distrib LogoFive former employees of One Distribution Co. have brought a lawsuit in Orange County, California Superior Court against the company and also named Vice President of global Brands Matt Fontana for “alleged wrongful termination, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, retaliation and failure to take effective remedial action,” according to a story in the OC Weekly. The suit reportedly claims the following:

“Fontana subjected the female employees at One Distribution to greater scrutiny, stricter standards and treated them less favorably than similarly situated males,” reads the complaint. “Fontana compelled employees to ‘pose’ for sexually prurient prospective ads and to engage in work with inappropriate sexual content, advertising crude and questionable pornographic sexual material when the customer market for their work product is children (specifically boys) from the ages of 11 to 17 (primarily skating and skateboard apparel).

Wonder how this one will play out? For the rest of the story click the link.

The Stair Rover Skateboard Project

by The Editors on June 28, 2012

Ignoring for a moment the fact that very few skateboarders in the world dream of riding a skateboard down a set of stairs, Po-Chih Lai’s Stair Rover is an interesting design. Here’s what the artist Po-Chih says about it:

The piece aims to expanding the capability and possibility of extreme sports as we understand them. Inherited from our natural instincts, sliding as children and snowboarding as adults, the focus is on one of the most influential and stimulating sports – skateboading, aiming to push the boundaries further. The piece creates a groundbreaking form of sport which previously never existed and utilises the hidden energy of our cities – stairs. STAIR ROVER – the Stairboard is a product that relies on the other product – stairs, which are found easily within the human habitat, especially in cities. This is an outstanding performance reflecting where we as residents live and what we love.

Reminds us that art is what artists do.

On Go Skateboarding Day 2012 etnies set a Guinness World Record for the largest skateboarding lesson ever given as 311 skateboarders rallied at the etines skatepark of Lake Forest.

“Today was not only about learning a lesson in skateboarding and setting a record, it was also learning about inspiration,” Pierre-Andre Senizergues said after the event yesterday. “Skateboarding was Thomas Johnson’s inspiration to stay active and happy when he was ill and his positive persistence has inspired the hundreds of skateboarders that came out today. As skateboarders, we need to give back and inspire others who skate or want to skate. Thomas’ memory did that for us and helped us to set the Guinness World Record!”

Bummed we missed it. Would have been great to learn some of those classic freestyle moves from the master. Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]
