It traces his upbringing in the seaside town of Lorne on Victoria’s south western coast and his turbulent experiences as a ‘conscientious objector’ on the run from conscription and the Vietnam War. Ultimately, it is about an extremely gifted individual with an intense connection to the Southern Ocean, whose approach to surfing has been a spiritual journey often putting him at odds with the surfing subculture and society in general.

We’ve always been stoked on Trevor Colden. The kid is good. And, as proof, here’s a teaser from his full part which apparently debuts on Thrasher Mag on Thursday, June 20, 2013. They’ve seen it and described it as “gnarly as hell, no-filler, all-ender, skate prodigy insanity.” Watch for it and in the meantime peep this tease.
Yes, when an independent magazine gets another issue out it is something to celebrate. That’s why we’re posting this video from the crew at Later Magazine. And then there’s the part about writing from Chas Smith, Dave Carnie, and a special appearance by Chris Cote. We might even have to read this one . . . if it finds its way into our mailbox.
Dennis Busenitz certainly does catch those flips nicely. In fact, there’s not much Busenitz does on a skateboard that doesn’t look good and fast. Here’s a little more proof.
It would appear that the wizards behind the Wave Garden are continuing to perfect their magical wave building machine. They’re also giving us a much better look at what the entire place looks like. The big question: When will the first one show up in Minneapolis?
Dylan Rieder, Natas, Greyson Fletcher, Ryan Wilson, Jack Fardell, Alex Gray, and Chippa Wilson apparently went to New Zealand and did their thing. Monster Children was there to hop on board and document a little of it. It looks like Team Average 2.0.
It’s the mainstream vs. the subculture in Drift this summer’s latest addition to the Hollywood surf movie cannon. The film follows the Kelly Brothers as they fight to surf and find success in the booming Australian surf scene of the 70s.
After their mother escapes from Sydney to Margaret River in the 1970’s, the two Kelly brothers spend their youth searching for the perfect wave. Out of necessity the family launch a backyard surf business – re-thinking board design, crafting homemade wetsuits and selling merchandise out of their van. Battling big waves, small town conservatism and criminals, the brothers give rise to a global brand. A story of passion, corruption, friendship and loyalty, deadly addictions and fractured relationships, DRIFT tells a tale of courage and the will to survive at all odds.
Or something like that. The film reportedly opens August 2, 2013.

Ah yes, the backyard ramp. We’ve skated a few in our time. “After all the skate parks of the 1970’s closed down and before street skating took over, there was the backyard ramp. In part one of this episode, Grosso sits down with Lance Mountain to reminisce about the “golden age of the backyard ramp” in this edition of Jeff Grosso’s Love Letters to Skateboarding. Enjoy.
There was a time when all we’d skateboard on was Lib Tech Skateboards. And then they became too hard to find. Are those days over? We’re not sure, but we do know that Sky Siljeg knocks the teeth out of pretty much everything he skates. And, so what if he and Mikey “L’il Swayze” Swearingen, Chad Fenlon and Edwin Swagerty didn’t even leave the State of Washington on this tour, it’s still fun to watch from the safety of our command module.
