Mike Basich’s241 warehouse in Northern California went up in flames on November 2, 2020 due to a faulty clothing dryer. The warehouse was his maker headquarters and home to his large collection of snowboard memorabilia — most of which (including his photographs, old contest banner, jerseys, trophies, magazine, video, etc. . .) was destroyed in the fire. Sadder still, Mike’s insurance company cancelled his fire coverage last year.
There is a way to help Mike out. Mason Dotto has created a GoFundMe for Mike with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Mike to help rebuild his warehouse. For all the details please click the link.
Jeremy Jones‘ new eco film Purple Mountains has been on our “must watch” list for a while now. Here’s the back story:
Motivated by an urge to protect the places he loves, Jeremy sets out on a physical and philosophical journey to find common ground with fellow outdoor people across diverse political backgrounds. He learns their hopes and fears while walking a mile in their shoes on the mountain and in the snow.
We’re always pleased for a new GoPro with a higher number because it means the chances of this one being a consistently usable camera are at least hypothetically increased. The new GoPro Hero 9 Black has some great new features (bigger battery, screen on the front) that will make it easier to use in all kinds of situations. And hopefully, this one can survive an in and out of the water trip without the back LCD screen failing. Guess we’ll have to see on that one. (Can you tell we’ve had trouble with every single GoPro we’ve owned?)
Dana Brown, son of the late legendary surf filmmaker Bruce Brown, has a new film that follows one last trip that he took with his dad– a trip to catch up with all his old friends. It’s called A Life of Endless Summers: The Bruce Brown Story. It premiered in Newport Beach at a Drive-in theatre. And it is well worth a watch for fans of The Endless Summer or On Any Sunday. We can’t really stomach horror movies these days, as we’re getting enough terror on the day-to-day IRL, but if you find horror somehow calming, then this new blood and guts snowboarding slasher Let It Snow may be just what you’re looking for. Apparently, you’ll have to wait until September 22, 2020. Ride on.
Jeremy Jones talks with Jones Snowboards ambassador Ryan Hudson in a Breaking Trail episode about growing up homeless, finding his way in life, and ultimately finding snowboarding. Listen. Learn.
