Not really sure how things could be worse for GoPro. They’ve announced terrible first quarter results and delayed launching their next big product, the Karma drone, according to a story on The Verge.
[GoPro] saw its revenue drop by 49.5 percent from the same period in 2015, and it swung from a $22 million profit to a $121 million loss. The company also announced that its new drone, the Karma, will be delayed until the winter holiday. It was originally slated to be released in the first half of this year.
Today (March 16, 2016), Nixon is at Switzerland’s world famous watch and jewelry expo Baselworld to rollout The Mission, their first ever smartwatch powered by Google’s Android Wear and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 system-on-a-chip. In otherwords, a real-deal Android smartwatch designed specifically with action sports in mind.
The Mission features a suite of custom applications tailored to action sports, as well as industry-leading durability and a category-first 10-ATM (100 meter) water-resistance rating. In addition to the full capabilities of the Android WearTM platform and apps, the smartwatch introduces Nixon’s custom Mission app powered by Surfline and Snocountry. The Mission app places live conditions information at a glance of the wrist and features a custom activity-tracking application developed in partnership with Trace, the leader in action sports activity tracking.
And with built-in GPS, this watch could be a prime replacement for the Garmin fenix 3 that is currently occupying our wrist. But we won’t be sure about that until we get one to test out for a couple weeks. For the official word from Nixon, please follow the jump.
Skateboarder Joey Brezinski has been creating and editing his own video parts for years. Lately, he (like most of us) has been using his iPhone for most of his video work and with that comes the need for other lenses. olloclip has them and Joey uses them. Probably long before he was paid to do it. Check it.
One of our favorite action sporting GPS smart watches, the Garmin Vivoactive, is getting a nice upgrade this spring with the addition heart-rate monitoring, a completely redesigned case, and built-in snowboard activity tracking. The new watch is called the Garmin Vivoactive HR.
The snowboarding app measures 3-D speed by calculating the speed and distance on an incline versus latitude and longitude. It also provides splits automatically and features Auto Pause, which freezes the timer automatically when users stop or ride the lift.
We like it for the snowboarding app, but not only that, the Vivoactive HR does smart notifications better than most. It allows you to get texts and emails (and even answer your phone) on your wrist without having to dig for your phone and it will run for up to eight days on a single charge. GoPole, our favorite action accessories company, has announced that they’re now offering attachments for smartphones as well as other action cameras.

Trace, makers of a small GPS and accelerometer data recorder,has teamed up with Channel Islands Surfboards to test various attributes of their surfboard designs.
Using Trace, Channel Islands will study everything from new materials, surfboard outlines, rockers and a lot more by measuring acceleration, turns, cutbacks, speed, distance traveled, time in water, time paddling.
The Trace tracker uses built in GPS and a 3-axis accelerometer to record performance metrics like distance traveled, speed, and g-forces exerted on a surfboard by a surfer. With its companion smartphone app Trace data can be viewed, analyzed, compared with others, and saved for future reference.
Now, thanks to a deal Channel Islands, the Trace is being build into select surfboards.
“Using Trace with Channel Islands to help futher push board design, and having Traces come embedded in CI boards is a dream come true. There’s no company more dedicated to performance and pushing the envelope in surfing, and it’s a perfect fit for Trace, “ says David Lokshin, Co-Founder and CEO of Trace.

Seeing as Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 will not be coming out on Wii U, we were thinking that maybe he could do some kind of collab with Nintendo on a game that melds THPS 5 with the just launched first person paint splatter fest Splatoon. It might looks something like this that went down at the UK’s Adrenaline Alley skatepark. They could even call it Splatony Hawk Pro Skater. Come on. Give it a go?
We haven’t really figured any reason to carry an iPad or and iPad Mini around with us when we already have our phone. But Sean Malto rocks his all the time and apparently didn’t have a nice way to keep it protected while on the road.
