While in Sydney, Australia for the run up to the Vans Bowl-A-Rama Tony Hawk took some time to talk to the media about how the Olympics need skateboarding more than skateboarding needs the Olympics. Wise words from a man who knows.

Yes, apparently Late Night With David Letterman is still on and as is the custom he’s interviewing Olympic gold medalists. Here he talks to halfpipe gold medalist Kaitlyn Farrington. If you need to know anything else, watch. Oh, and if you want to see Sage Kotsenburg utter the first words we’ve ever heard him speak, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Yobeat nails it down on the Shaun White Slopestyle pullout interview. Our faces are cracking. “Afroman is my away message.”

How is Shaun White preparing for the Olympic Games? He took to Twitter to show that he’s been dining on a local delicacy saying: “Food in Russia is amazing! #McSochi” Wonder if this is part of a “viral marketing” campaign? Might as well get paid to eat, too.

Really don’t know how we missed this one. Maybe it’s because we never watch Larry King Now. But 48 Block alerted us to this interesting interview with Rob Dyrdek. In the interview we realized that there is no getting around it: Rob Dyrdek lives his life and makes things happen.

While Scotty Lago was battling away in the Mammoth Mountain superpipe for a spot on the 2014 US Olympic snowboard team, his “long-time girlfriend” Bridget Brunet (real name, apparently) was busy participating in the Miss New Hampshire USA pageant in Manchester, New Hampshire.
NewHampshire.com couldn’t have been much blunter with their coverage:
While Brunet was winning the Miss New Hampshire USA crown, her longtime boyfriend, snowboarder Scotty Lago, fell short of the scores needed to put him on the four-man halfpipe Olympic Snowboarding Team nominated by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix in Mammoth Falls, Calif.
Well, at least they have something to celebrate!

Ken Block has Hoonagan’d out a new Ford F-150 Raptor for winter driving. We’re not too into those big green letters on the sides, but if someone could cover those up, we’d be down to take a test drive. . . sure we would.

Stephanie Gilmore was doing a shoot for Vogue at Australia’s Bondi Beach “recently” when she nearly had a wardrobe malfunction (follow the jump for those photos).
What we hope everyone learned from the above photo, however, is that it’s very difficult to look good surfing next to Stephie. . . even if you’re Laura Enever. More after the jump via The Courier Mail. [click to continue…]

Harper wrote lyrics to “Pleasure And Pain” on Christian Hosoi’s board, and Hawk had members of The Clash write lyrics from “London Calling” on his. Photo by Jody Morris.
On December 5, 2013 Ben Harper and Tony Hawk kicked off the second annual Boards + Bands auction to benefit at-risk youth from the Clive Davis Theater at The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, California.
The Boards + Bands initiative brings together the worlds of skateboarding and music to benefit the work of the Tony Hawk Foundation, which helps bring high quality public skateparks to underprivileged children in low-income communities. The chosen recording artists have hand-written the lyrics on one-of-a-kind skateboards from each skater. . . . “The second annual boards and bands has arrived!” said Harper. “I couldn’t be more proud of the work we’ve done at the Tony Hawk Foundation—it is an honor to serve as a member of the Board. Skatepark building is community building, so please help us spread the word about this year’s auction. Thank you!”
Musician and skater match-ups include some interesting combinations like Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin “Candle In The Wind” on a Chris Cole deck; Daft Punk “Technologic” on Aaron ”Jaws” Homoki’s board; and Panda Bear “You Can Count On Me” with Andrew Reynolds. Last year the boards got pretty expensive but just click on www.BoardsAndBands.org and throw in your bid, or follow the jump for the official word from The Tony Hawk Foundation. [click to continue…]
