For their holiday lookbook Brixton has gone all wild west in the form of a classic Mexican Standoff. Wikipedia explains:
A Mexican standoff is most precisely a confrontation among three opponents armed with guns. The tactics for such a confrontation are substantially different than for a duel, where the first to shoot has the advantage. In a confrontation among three mutually hostile participants, the first to shoot is at a tactical disadvantage.
Who wins? Watch this edit and find out.

Vans is celebrating 20 years in the snowboarding game with a new “Mountain Edition” of technical boots and accessories and the release of a new retrospective film by Mike Hatchett.
The 2014 collection will include an exclusive 20th Anniversary capsule, complete with V-66 boot, jacket and socks. And finally, Vans will release, “Twenty Years: Off the Wall, On the Snow”, a definitive retrospective film on Vans Snow by respected snowboarding filmmaker Mike Hatchett of Standard Films. . . . On the heels of Vans’ cultural influence in skateboarding and surfing in the early 90s, Vans made its debut on the mountain, employing nearly 30 years of footwear expertise to introduce the first Vans snowboard boots. Transforming what were then glorified duck boots into functional designs, Vans set out to deliver comfortable, performance-driven snow boots that optimized the mountain experience but still looked and felt like your favorite skate shoes.

Vans‘ parent company VF Corp isn’t going to let a few rumored layoffs at Reef get in the way of their march to global fashion domination. This morning, the company announced a four-for-one stock split and a 21 percent (pre-split) increase in this quarter’s dividends.
“During the past decade, VF has returned nearly $5 billion to shareholders through dividend payments and share repurchases,” said Eric Wiseman, VF Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Today’s announcement is the result of VF’s strong financial and stock price performance, and the confidence we have in our ability to create long-term profitable growth and returns for our shareholders.”
Some will tell you that splits don’t matter. Those who own loads of pre-split shares would likely argue. For the official word from VF follow the jump. [click to continue…]

With the addition of action fashion industry icons Danny Kwock (formerly of Quiksilver) and Troy Eckert (formerly of Volcom) the What Youth team may be headed in some new directions. Here’s the low-down on the new “strategic partners.”
Kwock will be taking on a primarily advisory position, while Eckert will have significant involvement in the marketing of the What Youth brand, as well as an active role in content creation and project management. Kwock and Eckert also both bring their extensive relationship networks in action sports, and beyond, to this fast growing media brand. . . What Youth Editor/Founder Travis Ferré is very excited to explore the opportunities both Eckert and Kwock bring to the table. “To have the opportunity to strengthen and grow What Youth, while simultaneously adding the creativity and experience of Danny and Troy to our team is a huge honor and incredibly exciting for us. We’ve all been inspired by the creative work Troy has done — especially in Magnaplasm and The Bruce Movie — and Danny has proven to be one of the surf world’s most revolutionary visionaries who continues to push surfing and surf culture.”
Kwock and Eckert also bring a lot more than creativity and experience to the What Youth table (if you know what we mean). And that could be even more important to the brand over the long term. For the official word from What Youth’s parent company Trade Gothic, LLC, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

It’s official. Try and run a Cinch Fly on your shorts without permission from Volcom and you’re going to be breaking the law.
“The Cinch Fly was created to eliminate the bulkiness and maximize comfort,” says Joe Frizzelle, senior men’s board short designer. “Through the strategic design on the fly, we were able to discard the zipper without adding an inner gusset/extra fabric.. This dramatically reduced the amount of fabric & construction on the front of the garment which in turn makes the board short more comfortable in the water.”
That’s fashion with a function right there. That’s what that is.

Rip Curl founders Claw Warbrick and Brian Singer have apparently “stepped down” from the board of directors at Rip Curl ending 44 years behind the brand, according to a story on Business Day.
Documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission show Mr Warbrick and Mr Singer ceased being directors of Rip Curl International last month, although they will retain a very large interest in the future of the surf wear retailer with a combined 72 per cent stake.
Guess we’re not the only one who feel the surf fashion biz just isn’t that much fun anymore.
