Jump in the van with Marie-France Roy and Alex Yoder as they weave their way through Scotland, exploring how personal accountability allows for universal land access and old farm shelters enable mountain folks to rove freely. They even find a little snow scattered here and there between the rocks. The film is on tour this fall (starting October 10, 2017) and if you’d like to see it free (at a Patagonia retailer near you), then please follow the jump for details.
Billionaire Oakley and Red Camera founder Jim Jannard has always had a fetishist’s attention to architectural detail (and design in general) and that’s why it is so entertaining to check out his concrete and metal Beverly Hills, California home featured in Wallpaper Magazine.
Though it took five years to complete the house, the outline of the project was sketched out in just a few bold strokes: it would have a high-tech feel, bringing in some of Jannard’s product designers for the all-metal fixtures; it would take advantage of its singular locale, with multiple vantage points looking out to the sprawling urban vista; and, of course, it would be monumental, recalling a certain prehistoric rock formation in southern England.
Looks like the perfect place to wait out the days of tribulation.

Did you think GoPro’s new QuikStories auto-editing app was a partnership with Quiksilver? So did we. Maybe it was the missing “c,” or the scribble type. Though on reflection we realized that who ever designed the QuikStories logo was probably still in middle school when Natas Kapas created his Ralph Steadmanesque blown ink “impaired” logo work for Quiksilver. Maybe it’s a tribute. . .
Led by the SIMA Humanitarian Fund, the surf industry is coming together to help the victims of both Hurricane Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico. All funds will be routed to Waves For Water, who is on the ground in Puerto Rico working to secure access to clean drinking water in the most impacted and neglected areas of the U.S. Territory.
“Surf culture and the surf industry have a long history with Puerto Rico, starting with the fourth World Surfing Championships held there in 1968,” said Dylan Slater, President of the SIMA Humanitarian Fund. “The people, the surfing community and the surfing industry has been significantly impacted by these storms, and we feel an obligation to do what we can to help them get back on their feet.”

Tom Petty has died of apparent cardiac arrest according to a story on TMZ. We’ll miss him, but at least we have this video (filled with our friends from skateboarding’s glory days) to remember him by. He was 66.
Okay, former Quiksilver CEO Bob McKnight didn’t exactly buy one camera, but he is one of an impressive list of investors helping to fund a new tiny POV camera from a Costa Mesa, California based company called Opkix, according to a story in the Orange County Business Journal.
“The Opkix team is on the cutting edge of new technology and they’ve created a revolutionary suite of products that hits squarely on the needs of millennials,” McKnight said in a statement. “I’m confident that Opkix will change the way we create visual stories for social sharing.”
Lingo bingo: “team,” check; “technology”, check; “millennials,” check; “stories,” check; “social,” check. Sounds like this will be a winner on all fronts.

Camera nerds rejoice. The new GoPro Hero6 Black features 4K60 and 1080p240 packed into the same body that the Hero5 Black came in. If those numbers mean anything to you then you’re probably as excited as GoPro CEO Nick Woodman is.
“HERO6’s next-level image quality, video stabilization and three times faster QuikStories performance makes it a powerful storytelling extension of your smartphone,” said Woodman. “It’s never been easier to live it, then share it…using a GoPro.”
They also launched an “immersive 5.2K spherical content” camera that will easily make those surround videos that are so annoying to pan around in. To buy one click here, for the official word from GoPro, please follow the jump.
