On July 2, 2011 The California Museum in Sacramento, California will host a collection of skateboarding artifacts curated by legendary Z-Boy Nathan Pratt, titled Riding Concrete: Skateboarding In California. The collection features over 200 items including items from over 30 pros including some the largest name in NorCal Skateboarding; John Cardiel, Ricky Windsor, Sam Cunningham, Omar Salazar, Stephan Janoski, Judd Hertzler, Brandon Biebel, Aric Hondel, Matt Rodriguez, Matt Pailes and Taylor Bingaman.
This all-new exhibit explores the California-created sport of skateboarding. From the earliest 1950s wood plank and metal roller skate wheel prototypes to the modern engineered marvels of today, rare boards and ephemera document the evolution of “sidewalk surfing.” Highlights include many firsts, including the first pro model board, the first board with urethane wheels and the first Zephyr team board.
Included in the show are photos from Craig Stecyk and cover art from Thrasher Magazine’s 30 Anniversary exhibit.
Our least favorite bargain action fashion retailer, Tilly’s, has reportedly filed to go public, according to a story in the Orange County Business Journal.
It’s a major move under new Chief Executive Daniel Griesemer, who joined the company in February from women’s clothing and accessories retailer and catalog company Coldwater Creek in Idaho. . . Griesemer replaced longtime head and company founder Hezy Shaked. . . The retailer saw sales of $332.6 million last year, which was up 17.6% from a year earlier, according to the filing. . . .In the last five years, Tilly’s entered 25 new markets and doubled its total number of stores.
Didn’t take long for Quiksilver to roll out the new DC Chris Cole pro model slippers. These are called the “S” and they are reportedly available in fine footwear stores anywhere. If they made us skate like that we might even consider buying a pair.
