What seems like the longest wait on the ASP Dream Tour is almost over. Only seven more days until the boys fire it all back up for the 2011 Billabong Pro J-Bay. The waiting period begins July 14, 2011. As a reminder the current top five looks like this: Adriano de Souza, Joel Parkinson, Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, and Jordy Smith.
Screaming Lord Salba, Dave Ruehl, and the boys put in some lines in the Ridiculous pool on July 2, 2011 with a little help from UK street artist D*Face and skate paint rigs. Amazing.

The 60-year-old woman who beat Bam Margera with a piece of pipe on June 12, 2010 was sentenced to two years probation last month (June 13, 2011), according to a story in the Daily Local News.
On Monday, Elizabeth “Liz” Ray, 60, of South Matlack Street, West Chester, entered guilty pleas to charges of recklessly endangering another person and simple assault in front of Common Pleas Court Judge Anthony Sarcione, who proceeded to sentence her to two years probation after a brief hearing.
Apparently, Bam told the judge he didn’t want to see the woman serve jail time. Nice of him, huh?
The Oregonian writer Allen Brettman spoke to many of the P-Town outerwear brands like Grenade, Bonfire, Airblaster, Betty Rides, Holden, and Homeschool and found out that “July is perhaps among the busiest for the local snowboarding apparel and equipment industry.”
Future garments are under design, the upcoming season’s line is under production, and sales meetings abound, with independent representatives as well as a network of retailers. . . . “For sure, this is the busiest time of year for many of our departments,” Jesse Grandkoski of the Airblaster brand emailed from Taiwan.
Guess that’s where everyone has been lately. Click the link for the rest of the story . . .

On Friday, July 1, 2011 Volcom CEO Richard Woolcott announced that long-time Volcom CFO Doug Collier would be leaving the company. In an email sent to employees Woolcott said:
I want to let you know that after 18 great years with the company, Doug Collier has decided to retire from Volcom. Doug has been a friend and close ally since the early days, through years of crazy growth and through our life as a public company. I’m very stoked for him and fully support his decision to spend more time surfing and snowboarding with his wife and boys. . . While I will miss our daily interactions, he will always be part of the Volcom family. I wish him the very best, and have asked him to please save some powder for the rest of us!
Before anyone jumped in to say that PPR was moving its people into the VeeCo building, Wooly was quick to mention that Collier would be replaced by six-year Volcom finance team member Dave Unter. Wooly said:
Dave is a seasoned executive with strong experience, and we are excited he will be our financial steward as we enter this new phase for the company. Dave joined Volcom back in 2005 after a short time at Hot Topic and almost a decade at Deloitte and Touche LLP providing advisory, audit and assurance services for companies in the action sports and retail industries.
Congrats, to Doug and Dave. Seems like the perfect time for some to walk away and others to step up.
At the International Olympic Committee meetings in Durban, South Africa on Monday evening (July 4, 2011) it was announced that Slopestyle snowboarding (and skiing) would be officially added to the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. As this addition will likely bring more gold medals to the US Team, USSA’s CEO Bill Marolt was obviously happy about it:
“The IOC’s decision to add slopestyle to the Olympics recognizes the millions of youth who are already participating in the sport in terrain parks around the world. It will have a very positive impact on the sport including our U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing programs, he said. “It’s gratifying to see the modernism shown by the IOC in bringing in so many new events to better showcase the excitement of skiing and snowboarding as action sports to the world.”
Cam Richards and Leila Hurst took the Open titles at the 2011 NSSA National Championships in Huntington Beach, California on July 3, 2011.
“I feel awesome right now, I wasn’t expecting this,” beamed Richards. “I did really bad in my main divisions; I lost Open Juniors and the Explorer so I was mad and wanted to redeem myself, I guess this was a good way to do it.”
Hurst was similarly stoked with her performance.
“I’ve wanted this for so long and this was my last chance to get it, so I’m so stoked,” Hurst said. “Now I can walk away with more than the Explorer title. I’ll go for the CT and all that fun stuff but I’m just going to cruise for the rest of this summer.”
Parker Coffin took home the Juniors title. For the rest of the story follow the jump, or click here for all the photos, video, and results. [click to continue…]
