Pacific Sunwearreported numbers today (March 13, 2012) for their fourth quarter and things are not looking good according to a story on CBS News.
Net loss for the three months ended Jan. 28 widened to $38.1 million, or 56 cents per share. That compares with a net loss of $35.2 million, or 53 cents per share. Excluding a cost for issuing convertible stock and store closing charges, net loss would have been 19 cents per share. Analysts expected a loss of 22 cents per share, according to FactSet.
For the year Pac Sun lost $106.4 million compared to $96.6 million last year. The closed 87 stores during the quarter and yet CEO Gary Schoenfeld says “sales trends improved as the holiday season progressed.” And yet they’re still buying full spread print ads in Surfer Magazine. One wonders how long this can go on. The stock was down 15.94 percent in after-hours trading.
Surfer Leila Hurst’s sister Sophia was born with a spinal defect. After nearly 30 surgeries, Sophia finally got the chance to go surfing thanks to Life Rolls On and They Will Surf Again. Here is the inspiring story straight from Leila and Sophia.
Louie Vito has always worked hard for his money, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that he’s working hard for Barbasol, too. But on this one he’s running on the razor’s edge.

Thanks to a crazy travel schedule Tony Hawk missed several of the biggest Bones Brigade: An Autobiography movie events, so to make up for that Hawk invited a couple hundred people (including the original Bones Brigade) to attend a special private showing of the film at the world famous La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas, California on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
Before the film began Hawk welcomed all the guests to the showing. “It’s a great honor to be here with all our friends and family and obviously industry people here in Southern California,” Hawk said. “So without further ado here is Bones Brigade: An autobiography. Enjoy.”
For the next hour and a half (we have no idea how long the movie was because we were entranced the entire time) the audience sat, eyes set straight ahead as Stacy Peralta, George Powell, the Bones Brigade and their contemporaries told the story of how a group of amazingly talented skaters became one of the most iconographic skateboarding crews of all time.
Those decadent editors at Stab Mag have talked another doe-eyed, rising women’s surf star into sexing it up for a magazine photo feature. This time 20-year-old Sage Erickson gets the nearly naked, buns up, topless treatment. To see the rest check out Stab Mag issue #56. Bounce, bounce, bounce. . .
Shaun White finally made it to a Burton US Open of Snowboarding Halfpipe (did he really miss it three years in a row?). And to no one’s surprise, he won.. Something he hasn’t done since 2008. But it was close he edged Louie Vito by only 1.06 pints.
Elena Hight continued her winning ways in the women’s comp and put an end to Kelly Clark’s debatable “16 event winning streak.”
White was happy to do his part: ““Coming to the 2012 Burton US Open was amazing,” White said. “It was great to see Jake and be a part of this historical event. I’m proud to take home this victory.”
And Hight was glad she came. “I’m really happy with the whole weekend – the pipe and weather were amazing,” said Elena. “I haven’t been at the Open for a couple of years, and it’s great to come back and embrace the 30th anniversary of the event.”
Third time was a charm for Sebastien Toutant as he finally pulled it all together and landed his run on his last chance at the Burton US Open of Snowboarding at Stratton Mountain, Vermont on March 9, 2012. His run included a Cab hard way 270 on, Cab double cork 1260 melon, frontside double cork 1080 mute, frontside wall ride 270 out and 50-50 to backside rodeo out. Ulrik Badertscher nailed his first run and then watched as everyone tried to beat him. Luckily, Toutant was the only one who did and Seppe Smits ended up in third.
Slopestyle slayer Jamie Anderson only needed two runs to handle her business and win the event, the Burton Open Series Title, and the TTR Slopestyle Title. What was her business? Oh, you know, a frontside board slide to fake, Cab 720 nose grab, switch backside 540 mute grab, tail slide 270 out and ending things with a 50-50 backside 180 out. Kjersti Ostgaard-Buaas and Enni Rukajarvi finished in second and third.
“I can’t believe I’m walking off the podium with three trophies,” Anderson said. “It’s enough to just win the US Open slope style title, which I haven’t won since 2007. But to also go home with the BGOS and TTR Championship titles is a huge honor.”
One thing of note (if you didn’t catch the live webcast today): the cable cam used in the live broadcast made the Burton US Open the best slopestyle we’ve ever seen. It’s worth check out in replay mode if you’re up for it. Click here to watch the whole show over, or follow the jump for the official word from Burton. [click to continue…]

Casio G-Shockhas signed up US Halfpipe champion Louie Vito as a brand ambassador and now Louie will have a new sticker on his board and some pretty tough watches to wear around.
