Marc Lacomare On Nixon Euro Team

by The Editors on May 30, 2012

The Nixon Euro surf team now include French ripper Marc Lacomare. How’s that for good news?

The multiple French Junior Champion and former ASP Billabong World Junior Champion is no stranger to the Nixon family having previously been on the Nixon flow program. Following Marc’s impressive showing in the Canary Islands, the team made a unanimous decision to promote the Hossegor-based surfer to the European surf team.

Now Marc knows what time it is.

Metta’s Skateboarding Mental Health Hero

by The Editors on May 30, 2012

Yeah, the idea that elbow-throwing, fan fighting basketball player Metta World Peace (a.k.a. Ron Artest) would be out promoting mental heath is a little more than ironic. But the fact that he’s doing it dressed as a super-hero longboarder makes it just plain insane. But it seems to be the way Metta likes it.

Go Pro Signs “Kelly Fucking Slater”

by The Editors on May 30, 2012

Who wouldn’t be excited to have 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater on their team, but did GoPro really need give Mr. Slater a new middle name? Apparently they did. And it is “Fucking.” And it’s about fucking time fucking Kelly fucking Slater got some fucking recognition for being Kelly Fucking Slater. Fuck.

[Editors’ Note: Yes, this is the second time we’ve used this over fucking use of the fucking fuck word for comedic effect. But that’s just because we’re a sustainable business. We recycle cuss words because they’re so hard on the environment.]

Rolling NorCal On The Dervish Sama

by The Editors on May 30, 2012

Occasionally we check in with the longboard crowd to see what’s up. After watching this new Loaded promo film Swerving Sama we can’t say we’re any closer to understanding exactly what’s going on, but they sure do roll through some beautiful terrain on that new board. Here is Loaded’s definition of Sama:

Sama is the Sufi ceremony focusing on active meditation as a tool for the individual’s spiritual journey. The origin of this practice is credited to Rumi, a poet and founder of the Mevlevi order of whirling dervishes. Through Sama, the individual aims to ascend from the confines of thought to attain heightened maturity, perfection, and closeness to God.

Kind sounds like of the opposite of street skating. Which is the best description of longboarding we’ve come up with yet. . .

Wet Willy & Flameboy Get Pink Slipped

by The Editors on May 30, 2012

Andrew Says Goodbye

World Industries battling cartoon characters Wet Willy and Flameboy are getting the boot and will be out on their own under their own Flameboy vs. Wet Willy brand after this summer. That means, the 2012 summer line will be the last time the boys will be on World Industries skateboards.

In celebration of the end of an era and the beginning of a new one World will be numbering their Flameboy and/or Wet Willy completes in their limited edition Summer 2012 final line. This will be the last chance to get the characters on a World Industries’ skateboard. Going forward World Industries plans to reflect on their 25 years of skate heritage and take inspiration from the early Rocco generation with a focus on a more relevant skate audience.

It really is about time those two grew up and handled their own big box store business. Sounds like good news all around. Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]
