ONE Distribution is rightfully proud to announce that Chewy Cannon is now on KR3W.
“Proper stoked to be part of the KR3W team,” Chewy said. “Still trippin’ on being on the same team as Tom Penny. Legend! Can’t wait to meet a bunch of them boys, too. Me and Karim are holding down the KR3W fort over here so you can rest easy boys.”
The Volcom Fiji Pro waiting period starts Friday, June 1, 2012 and it would seem that this event will be the one that breaks out the field and sets the tone for the rest of the 2012 season. Joel Parkinson is looking forward to it.
“The big difference this year is that there are a whole bunch of guys who’ve put their hands up in the ratings and there are some new guys in there like Kerrzy (Josh Kerr) and John John (Florence) who really add a new flavor to it,” Parkinson said. “You could throw a blanket over the Top 10 at the moment it’s that close, so leading the ratings right now doesn’t mean too much.”
Multi-glisse practitioner Trevor Jacob tossed off this little skateboard double cork to springy landing zone at Woodward while “skateboarding across this country.” Not a bad buck. Now let’s see that on the mega-ramp. . .
Action headphone company Skullcandy has the honor of being one of the most shorted stocks on the market, but that hasn’t seemed to have slowed the stock down so much lately, according to a blurb on Investorguide.com.
While this should be discouraging news for most companies, an increasing number of analysts are turning bullish on the stock, believing that the stock is set to rally strongly on the inevitable short squeeze. Skullcandy has beat Wall Street estimates for the past four quarters. Meanwhile, institutional ownership of the stock has climbed from 50% to 69.18% in a single quarter, while short interest has risen from 5.1 million to 10.3 million.
It would seem that almost everyone has an opinion on Skullcandy’s future these days. We’re giving it a neutral.

New Zealand surfer Marama Kake, 32, likes to surf naked, according to a story in the Courier Mail.
“I’m not out there to get everyone to look at me, I just love the sensation and simplicity of surfing in my ‘sustainability suit’,” Ms Kake said. “I cover up, or paddle away, if I am anywhere near children and have never had any trouble with lifeguards or authorities and I’ve been doing it for years in Australia and New Zealand.” … Ms Kake, who has “get naked, get sustainable” inscribed on her boards, said reactions were mostly favourable. She said women came over to say they admired her courage.
Hmmm, looks like Kake has found the perfect green marketing vehicle. If only Brad Gerlach had used that excuse naked surfing might have caught on around the world years ago.
Seems a winter off hasn’t slowed Nyjah Huston down one bit if the first stop of the 2012 Street League Skateboarding event in Kansas City is any judge. After blazing his way through the finals he rolled away with $150,000 for the win and another $10,000 for best trick. Here’s how he did it:
By posting consistently high scores and dropping big moves, like a bigspin to backside Hurricane on the bump-to-rail in the Best Trick section, he maintained a top two position throughout. In the final Big Section, with Monster teammate Chris Cole and Bastien Salabanzi nipping at his heels, Huston threw it into overdrive unleashing tricks on the rails like Cab backside lipslide, 360-flip lipslide, and then the one that sealed the deal and earned him Best Trick honors, the kickflip backside noseblunt slide.
This was Street League win number five for Huston and we’re betting there will be a few more on the season. For complete results, follow the jump.
Snurfer inventor Sherman Poppen will be honored by The Community Foundation for Muskegon County on June 7, 2012 when they will unveil the “Turning Point” sculpture at 447 W. Western, according to a story on MLive.
“The chamber hall of fame recognizes business excellence, innovation and inventions that have made lasting contributions to industry and the community,” Larsen said. “Clearly, Mr. Poppen’s invention changed the course of history in winter sports. This recognition is long overdue. . . “It is our hope that the sculpture and the award will inspire others to see Muskegon’s role in winter sports development and see the Muskegon Lakeshore as a winter tourism destination,” Larsen said.
The sculpture, by artist Jason Dreweck features a Snurfer rider at the top of a turn with a modern snowboarder at the bottom. Nice to see the home hometown honoring Mr. Poppen.
