Vans Kicking Ass In Q2 2012

by The Editors on July 19, 2012

Vans-LogoVF Corp, the parent company of Vans, Reef, The North Face, etc. . . announced its financial results for the second quarter today (July 19, 2012) and things are looking rosy at the soft goods giant. Total revenues were up 16 percent (thanks Timberland), gross margins expanded 46 percent, and cash flow from operations is “expected to reach a record $1.2 billon,” whatever that means. But how did Vans do? Well, they rocked it for another quarter.

The Vans® brand achieved a 25 percent (29 percent in constant dollars) increase in global revenues in the quarter, with double-digit revenue growth in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The Vans direct-to-consumer business also demonstrated solid results, with revenues rising by 18 percent.

Congrats, Vans. For the full release including not one word about Reef, follow the jump. If the raw numbers are more your deal, click here. [click to continue…]

Federico “Kikas” Morais just dropped a little clip “filmed entirely in Australia.” The clip features gulls, kangaroos, and Sheilas, but no shrimp, no barbies, and no Oi Ois.

Oi Mate: Winter In Australia

by The Editors on July 19, 2012

As a little reminder from Boardworld and Olliepop Films, if it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it must be wintering up in the Southern. Well, at least a little bit. It’s always fun watching someone else ride the white ribbon of death, especially in July. Oi Mate.

Supra Pr Kids Image 600X398

Supra Footwear is finally setting up some shoes that rad dads can buy for their kids. And it’s about time.

The four styles presented at the launch—Skytop, Vaider, Cuban, and Weston—are available in a full range of kids’ sizes (11-6). The first three styles are well known to SUPRA fans, as they’re the favorite footwear of some of the world’s top athletes and celebrities and have graced the pages of magazines and appeared on red carpets the world over, but the final style, the Weston, was created exclusively for kids.

We always figured the Skytop would sell better in kids sizes anyway. The shoes are available for purchase right now at Supra retailers and online. Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]

Desillusion x Alex Knost

by The Editors on July 19, 2012

Not sure if you’re up for an art overdose this morning? You might want to back off on this collaboration between Desillusion Magazine, Raen Optics, and RVCA. It is titled This Is Alex and it’s a profile of Alex Knost. Here’s what they say:

Hailing from Costa Mesa, California, Alex Knost certainly stands out of the crowd; a worthy heir to a surf culture that’s made up of pioneers, and numerous creative artists. After having followed in the footsteps of his spiritual big brother, Joel Tudor, Alex became in turn one of the best long boarders in the world, paddling his way to the front of the scene, in a counter culture that we thought was drowning under the waves of an extremely lucrative economy- surf industry. Almost uncatchable, the man flits like a butterfly from one art to the next (from photography to video, board shapes to music) trying to, like he says “lose himself in anything he does, hoping to exceed the limits that society has set him”.

See what we mean about the art overdose? Either way, it’s quality video work and Knost is a compelling subject.

Ambsn Reaches The Beach For The Holidays

by The Editors on July 19, 2012

Ambsn’s new Holiday 2012 lookbook features a tent camper and his long, dusty hike to the beach. Along the way his clothes magically switch up at every turn. It’s almost like they planned it that way just so they could show off all their new clothes.

Golfer David Duval Rocking Burton

by The Editors on July 18, 2012

Blog David Duval 0718-Thumb-300X411-73703-1David Duval apparently won the British Open Golf Championship in 2001 and though we don’t follow golf at all, someone alerted us to the fact that while Duval is in Lytham St. Annes for this year’s event he’s been rocking a Burton hat. Though we’re wondering if wearing a Burton hat while discussing all his injuries is such a good idea. Here’s what he said today, according to a story on Golf Digest:

“Yesterday I hit three or four shots that almost put me down,” he said. “I’ve worked my tail off. Unfortunately for me I’ve had multiple nagging little injuries. I’ve had tendinitis in both shoulders; I’ve got it in my elbows; I have bone bruises in my knees right now; I have a back problem that’s well-documented; had tendinitis in my wrist; I’ve had vertigo. Is that it?”

The big question is: is David just doing it as a favor to his friend Jake, or is Burton looking again at new ways to unseasonlize their brand?
