Seems there is always someone who believes that what the world really needs right now is an action sports theme park. This time around it’s Josh Kearney, a 34-year-old Australian. According to a story on Vegas Inc,. Kearney wants to create a park “right off the Las Vegas strip” that will features motocross, wakeboarding, surfing, and snowboarding.
“Vegas Extreme will stand as a new model for amusement parks around the world,” Kearney said. “Its focus is on an exploding generation of sporting events and recreation that push the boundaries of human movement.” . . .The amusement park would include a white sand beach for sunbathing and cabanas fashioned out of repurposed shipping containers. A 7-acre lake would offer jet skiing, whitewater rafting and wakeboarding. A cable system would allow up to 10 riders to zip around the lake at once. . . During winter, the lake could be drained and filled with snow. The resulting “ski bowl” could be used for snowboarding.
So what’s left before this year’s version of the Gotcha Glacier or New Jersey’s Xanadu becomes a reality? Well, $50 million for one, and then Kearney will also need a piece of property to build it on. In other words, this isn’t even a project yet. But we wish Kearney the best anyway. Would be cool if one of these finally got built somewhere in North America.

The list of large changes on the memo Billabong released today (July 16, 2013) is almost too long for one headline. That’s probably why they just listed four in order. Refinancing of Syndicated Debt Facilities, Sale Of Dakine, Appointment of New CEO, and New Director Appointments. How’s that for a mouthful?
Concurrent with signing the Bridge Facility, the Company has entered into binding documentation regarding the sale of DaKine to Altamont for a purchase price of A$70m (“Asset Sale”). The transaction is subject to conditions precedent which are typical for a transaction of this type. The sale is also conditional on the completion of the funding under the Bridge Facility.
In other words, Launa Inman is out as CEO (after a tumultuous 14 months), former Oakley CEO Scott Olivet is in, and Altamont Capital is now running the show. Thanks to their debt bailout (aka “Bridge Facility”) Altamont also gets to name two people (Altamont co-founders Jesse Rogers and Keoni Schwartz (hello Stanford, Harvard and Princeton)) to the Billabong board of directors. And the best part? They didn’t even have to buy the company. For most of the official details from Billabong, follow the jump or click here to get Jeff Harbaugh’s take on it all. [click to continue…]

It’s been a while since we’ve been this stoked on a music listening device as we’ve been lately with Nixon’s new, brightly colored, Bluetooth, shock and water resistant Blaster. It’s so much better than headphones. In fact, the speaker is so light and easy to pair with a smartphone that we immediately wanted to throw it in our big back pocket and skate around annoying strangers Survivor’s Eye of The Tiger turned up really, really loud. Truth.
With a custom audio signature, BIG bold sound, a 12+ hour battery life and compact styling, it’s a true portable music experience. A speaker that feels right at home in or outside of the four walls, The Blaster was created for a life well lived and the adventures that come along with it.
Better yet, every time we turn our’s off we hear a short message from Todd Richards. For the official word from Nixon, follow the jump.

After all that hoopla about the “sexist” Roxy Pro edit and the “butch lesbo” facebook response, reportedly from Quiksilver’s Chad Wells, event organizers have now cancelled the Roxy Pro Biarritz for a complete lack of waves.
“It’s been a challenging week surf wise, but the world’s best female surfers have still enjoyed themselves in the beautiful town of Biarritz,” Jessi Miley-Dyer, ASP Women’s World Tour Manager, said. “While we’re disappointed that the swell never manifested for this year’s event, we’re very pleased to announce that Roxy have committed to rescheduling the event to run in conjunction with the Quiksilver Pro France men’s event in late September. This will allow the 2013 ASP Women’s World Title race as well as the requalification campaigns of the world’s best female surfers to continue in the best possible fashion.”
The Roxy Pro will now be held in with the men’s Quiksilver Pro France in Hossegor, which is scheduled for September 24 – 30, 2013. For the official word from the ASP, follow the jump

Tony Hawk has a new ride and it’s electric. According to his Twitter feed it’s a brand new Tesla S (four door for the family). “New toy, oh ee oh. Nothing too demanding…,” Tony says quoting Lene Lovich. Can’t say we blame him. Amazing car.

Speaking of Roxy. . . the 2013 Roxy Pro Biarritz begins tomorrow, July 10, 2013. For those who haven’t been following the women’s pro tour Australian Tyler Wright, 19, is currently cruising in the number one spot after winning on the Gold Coast and in Brazil.
“This year, the intensity of each event makes the tour very entertaining,” Wright said. “It’s so intense! It’s pushing women surfing so far. I’ve brought 10 boards here but haven’t tested any of them yet. We’ll see what the surf delivers.”
Yes, we will. And we’ll see if Stephanie Gilmore (picture above) looks as good in the event as she does in the promo video. Follow the jump for the official word from the ASP.
