After wading through a week of less the spectacular surf the Vans US Open of Surfing got a little boost this morning (Friday 26, 2013) with the occasional four footer. Kelly Slater is already out in the round of 24 (thanks Michel Bourez) but Jadson Andre and Julian Wilson are still in there. More action is on the way. The Agenda Show kicked off yesterday (July 25, 2013) for its two-day run in the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. Above all it was a reminder for everyone of how great it is to get some face time with the people you do business with.
We’re still processing our one-day into the crowded aisles of Agenda and The Berrics Agenda, but in the meantime check out a few of our photos by clicking here.

Last September man about the surf Dan Malloy (and friends Kanoa Zimmerman and Kellen Keene) rode his bicycle down the California coast to check things out at a slower pace, catch some surf, and of course, create another Malloy multimedia masterpiece.
In this instance the creation is a book titled Fast Is Slow and a short film called Moving Pictures. Dan is spending August 2013 touring California with the book and film and you can check all three of them out if you’re in the area. The Slow Is Fast tour begins in Mill Valley, California on August 2, 2013. For a full list of tour locations, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Freewaters, the makers of our favorite flips (the Thermarest Scamps) have now announced a collab with filmmaker Bruce Brown and his classic surf dock The Endless Summer.
“Bruce, Robert and Mike helped open the world’s eyes to the amazing waves, people and culture of South Africa almost 50 years ago,” says Freewaters Ambassador, Robert Wingnut Weaver, who starred in the sequel The Endless Summer II. “Now to be partnering The Endless Summer with Freewaters and their clean drinking water projects in Africa, it has really come full circle. I’m proud to be a part of both brands.”
Looks like we’ll have to make room for another pair. For the official word from Freewaters, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Burton Snowboards has announced that they will be opening not one, but two company stores in Northern California’s Bay Area but they didn’t mention anything about wearing “flowers in their hair.” They’re taking over the space that formerly housed SFO Snowboard on Haight St. and moving in right down the street from the Nixon store in Berkeley.
“With Tahoe just a few hours away, there are thousands of people around San Francisco who are into winter sports, but only a handful of local snowboard shops to choose from,” says Jake Burton, Founder & CEO of Burton Snowboards. “We ship a lot of product to the Bay Area through Burton.com, so to us, that means snowboarders out there are looking for gear. By opening two stores in San Francisco, we can better service local riders by offering them industry-leading product and the customer experience Burton is known for, right in their own backyard.”
As independent retailers fade, expect the company stores to pick up the slack. For the official word from Burton and SFO’s Kent Uyehara, follow the jump.

Wetsuit developers SAMS (Shark Attack Mitigation Systems) have created some wetsuits that mess with sharks heads, but not in a bad way, according to a story in the Daily Mail. Apparently, sharks use their sense of smell to find prey, however, they use their eyes just before they chomp down.
The Diverter wetsuit has navy and white stripes that are seen on some poisonous animals and fish to make the shark think they diver is dangerous. . . The designers have also created matching surfboard stickers. . . According to SAMS, years of anecdotal evidence suggests that a stripe pattern acts as a deterrent or repellent to sharks.
Not looking like something that sharks want to eat is always a good thing.

Lost your nerves on anything over a three set? Got no pop? Tired of picking up your skateboard to walk down the stairs? The Stair-Rover is here to help.
The unique eight-wheeled mechanism makes the board equally at home cruising smooth pavements or gliding down steps. From the curb outside your house to a double flight of stairs, the Stair-Rover scuttles over obstacles with ease. . . On flat ground, Stair-Rover is the equal of any traditional longboard. But when the surface gets rough – cobblestones or uneven paving, for example – the chassis goes to work. It reduces impact and keeps you moving.
If you’re inspired, you can even help the developers fund their project on Kickstarter.

SurfAid, the organization that is dedicated to improving the health, well-being and self-reliance of people living in isolated surf zones is holding their second annual SurfAid Cup at Malibu, California on Saturday, September 7, 2013 and there’s still time for you to round up a team and complete. The catch? All you have to do is help raise at least $5,000 and you’re in surfing the Bu with a pack of friends (and your favorite pro surfer, maybe even Joel Tudor pictured above).
Teams aim to raise at least $5,000 for SurfAid and, in order of their fundraising total, each team picks a pro/legend surfer to join them, for a total of five surfers per team. The teams then compete in one-hour heats, with four teams battling out the final. An Expression Session will also be held at Malibu on Friday 6th September as a warm-up for the competitors. . . ASP world tour surfers Travis Logie and Courtney Conlogue and former world longboard champions Joel Tudor and Jen Smith have confirmed they will compete this year.
