Globe Stacks The Booty In Palm Springs

by The Editors on August 14, 2013

To promote their cruiser skateboards Globe did what any skateboarding company would do. They loaded up the Ace Palm Springs Hotel with a bunch of girls in bikinis (and topless); strategically stacked the booty in prime locations; and let the boys skateboard all over them them. And it works, because there is a dearth of booty in the world. Grow you quiver, indeed.

Tomorrow It’s Teahupo’o Time Again

by The Editors on August 14, 2013

The Billabong Pro Tahiti waiting period begins tomorrow (Thursday, August 15. 2013) and it appears that 2011’s monster wave fest will not be repeated at stop number six of the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour.

Surfline, official forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, are calling for: A modest, mid period SW swell will build in Thursday before easing slowly on Friday. A smaller SW swell is possible for Sunday, with a series of small to modest SW to S swells possible for the last few days of the waiting period.

Remember that “modest” in Teahupo’o standards is 6 to 8 foot waves. So don’t cool your jets just yet. Click here for all the contest details, or follow the jump for the official word from the ASP. [click to continue…]

by The Editors on August 13, 2013

We’ve been following the action tracking space for a while, and it seems that very few of the products ever make it past the Kickstarter phase. The makers of Alpine Replay (a ski and snowboarding action tracker) are launching a new tracker called Trace that (like competitor Lit) will get all your skateboarding, surfing, and snowboarding down for the world to see. All they need is $150,000 Kickstart and they’ll get cracking. You ready to put a dongle on your deck?

Timothy Hogan’s Fin Photo Project

by The Editors on August 13, 2013

Timothy Hogan is a still life photographer who also surfs and while attempting to come up with a project that would merge the both pieces of his life he decided to focus on surfboard fins.

“I wanted to find merge to bring two passions together and to contribute something to the sport because it is an overlooked part of surfing that has never gotten to seen the light of day, “Hogan says. “The fin inventors who have really allowed surfing to progress have never been given the recognition that they deserve. The fin is probably the most important evolutionary point in surfing.”

The project includes a website, fine art prints (on sale now here), and eventually a book. And yeah, the photos look really good.

John John Florence Gets Folded

by The Editors on August 13, 2013

1403 Matte Black Happy Bronze L

There’s nothing like trying to ram a pair of shades into a small pocket. Worry no more thanks to Spy’s new John John Florence Fold. Here’s what Spy says:

As a professional surfer, John John Florence has life on the road down pat: pack tight and travel light. With this in mind, he asked SPY to build him a special sunglass frame echoing that mantra. JJF’s signature Fold frame is mulit-hinged and “folds” up to fit neatly its pouch or pocket, without fear of getting lost or scratched. Aloha.

The shades come with a Happy Bronze Polar with black mirror lens and retail for $180 (what?). If you want them they’re available on the Spy website or your favorite Spy retailer.
