How Zune Is NERD?

by The Editors on July 22, 2008

Nerd.Thumbnail

Okay, so a kid uploads a video of some skating to a NERD song and wins this Active Ride Shop Contest. They get a autographed copy of NERD Seeing Sounds. That’s pretty hype. . . but what the hell are they going to do with an engraved Microsoft Zune? Aside from spending the rest of the summer explaining to everyone that “it’s kind of alike an iPod only it totally sucks.”

Sheckles To Host Celebrity Ball Whacking

by The Editors on July 22, 2008

Sheckler-Foundation-Header-01

If it weren’t for the short list of genuine action sports heros who are schedule to attend the Ryan Sheckler X Games Celebrity Skins Game, the celebrity list would read something closer to a joke: So, Brody Jenner, Mia Hamm, Kevin Federline, Bode Miller, and Vern Troyer walk into a bar. . .

But we shouldn’t laugh. The RSXGCSG (produced by the Sheckler Fountation) will be held July 29, 2008 at the Trump National Golf Course in Palos Verdes, California. And the proceeds from the event will go to four worthy charities: Wings for Life, Road 2 Recovery, The Athlete Recovery Fund, and Boarding for Breast Cancer.

If you want to join Ricky Carmichael, Eric Koston, Sal Masekela, Dave Mirra and the boys, the cheapest foursome spots are going for $20,000. The Gold super VIP package requires a $50,000 donation. We think that package includes getting your balls washed by The Hills Star Audrina Patridge, but don’t quote us on that. (Damn, there we go again. Sorry.)

Golfing sucks, so if you’re going to golf, might as well do it for a good cause. And Ryan doesn’t have to do this stuff, but he does. And that’s pretty cool.

If You Don’t Surf Don’t Start

by The Editors on July 22, 2008

Gotcha LogoPerry Ellis International has just announced signing a licensing agreement with leading European clothing giant TV Mania GMBH and Must International Trading, PTE, Ltd., to resurrect the Gotcha brand in Europe.

George Feldenkreis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Perry Ellis International, said: “We are very excited about this agreement with TV Mania and Must International Trading. Their knowledge of both the European market and the surf lifestyle make them the ideal partner to re-launch Gotcha in Europe. We look forward to an outstanding partnership.”

Hard to believe anyone is interested is putting more money into this brand (no offense, Michael).

Inventor Spot 10 Best Designers

by The Editors on July 22, 2008

July 22Nd - Alien Workshop DecksA site called InventorSpot.com has pulled together their list of the 10 Best Companies That Create Skateboard Deck Designs and aside from having a shockingly insightful headline (what are the hardgoods companies but graphic design firms) they’re pretty correct.

Creativity in skateboarding is endless because there is no governing body that declares what a skateboard should be in regards to parts and measurements. When the sport first started out, individuals focused mainly on the structure of a skateboard. But with the sport constantly growing in popularity, the overall design and image of a skateboard is crucial. There’s no such thing as a simple board anymore as design has been taken to the next level.

In the number 1 spot: Alien Workshop. Can’t say we disagree. Follow the link for the rest of the 10 Best from a site that really doesn’t claim to know much about skateboarding at all.

Healey Wins World Cup of Spearfishing

by The Editors on July 21, 2008

P7140015Proving that all his waterman skills are on point, the North Shore’s Mark Healey just pulled in a first place at the Bluewater World Cup of Spearfishing in La Paz, Mexico.

He speared a 55 pound Wahoo along with Yellow Tail, Roosterfish, Milkfish and Skip Jack. Although he had never entered the tournament before and was the only surfer in attendance, all of his daily practice in the deep waters off Hawaii and Fiji paid off as he took home the $3200 winner’s check. . . “I’ve been doing different spearfishing events for the last three years or so, but this was the first year I’ve competed in the Bluewater World Cup,” Healey said. “A friend convinced me to enter and fork out the cash to get there and it was definitely worth it.”

It figures someone who is used to long hold-downs would win it. Congrats, Mark.
