Unity Snowboards Still Around

by The Editors on October 27, 2008

Bilde-5Pete Wurster and the crew at Unity Snowboards got a nice little write-up in the Summit Daily News yesterday. It’s hard to believe the company is already 13 year old.

The fact that we’ve been doing it since 1995 is important,” he said. “There’s not a lot of companies in this industry that have been around that long. … And always in Silverthorne. We’re the only board company that actually makes their boards in the mountains. And frankly, we’re one of about four or five manufacturers in North America now. There’s not many left. Most everybody has gone to China or gone out of business. It’s a pretty unique thing that we’re building them ourselves here.”

So true.

Tony Hawk Gays Off With Guitar Hero

by The Editors on October 27, 2008

Tony Hawk has joined Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez, and Michael Phelps to dance around in their underwear in the latest Guitar Hero commercial according to a post on The Daily Voice.

The basketball, baseball, swimming and skateboarding stars appear on screen, a la Tom Cruise dancing to Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock And Roll” in the movie Risky Business. . . The ad, which was directed by filmmaker Brett Ratner, shows the athletes with dress shirts, underwear and socks in a living room and on two sofas.

Luckily, Tony has a drum set to hide behind.

McCain & Palin Don’t Surf

by The Editors on October 27, 2008

Fernando-1We just saw the header from a McCain/Palin email that horrifyingly features surfers (shown below) and it reminded us of something Reef Co-founder Fernando Aguerre said in a recent email:

The plans of McPain are the same as the ones of this administration for every key area of government policy.

The “deregulated” system, pushed down the throat of every emerging country by the IMF and World Bank for decades, has finally reached the American shores.

Not surprisingly, the economic result experienced by most nations that followed their advise has repeated itself: Recession, unemployment, jobs going overseas, and the generalized lowering of the living standards of the majority of the populations. I grew up in Argentina under “deregulation” mirages…

Deregulation is the fox in charge of the chicken cage: The result will always be the same: Fat happy foxes and scared, very poor or dead chicken.

While a MoPain administration is scary, what should scared the shit out of every citizen is the prospect of a witch doctor intern being a heart beat away from running this country and the world, as if the world were a fun hockey match…

We need a change.
The world needs a change.

All the best,
Fernando

PS: It won’t be bad to have a surfer in the White House… “Obama Surfs”…

We couldn’t agree more.

VeeCo’s Patented Ass-n-Jacket Zipper

by The Editors on October 27, 2008

108Ziptech560

Hard to believe that no one had patented this idea before, but they didn’t. Volcom did. Now with Zip-Tech Volcom pants and jackets with powder skirts can zip together to keep snow out of ass cracks around the world.

Zip-Tech is a Volcom exclusive feature that allows you to zip the powder skirt of your jacket to your pants – a simple idea that makes a world of difference. This feature will keep you dry and warm on a deep powder day and will keep away that mean ice burn during a slushy spring session.

Or you could just wear a one-piece. . .

Intrawest Saved By $1.7 Billion Re-Fi

by The Editors on October 24, 2008

Seems like getting a whole lot of money is much easier than getting a little in this credit crisis. Intrawest, the company that owns Whistler Blackcomb and other resorts had a $1.7 billion debt coming due yesterday and luckily they were able to refinance it just in time.

We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with our lenders, particularly given the challenges of the global credit markets,” said Bill Jensen, chief executive officer at Intrawest. . . “The support Fortress and our lenders have shown underscores their confidence in Intrawest and will enable us to continue to execute on our long-term strategic plans. . . . Intrawest has great assets, a sound business model and a solid track record. We are preparing for another successful winter season and look forward to providing our resort guests and homeowners with the exceptional level of service they have come to expect from our resort properties.”

Just wait until the Vancouver Olympics roll out of town. Then we’ll all see how “sound” and “solid” Intrawest looks. Enjoy the next couple years. . .

by The Editors on October 24, 2008

002Christian Hosoi has signed on with Healthy Coffee USA, Inc. as a member of the companies “founders club” according to a press release on Businesswire. And to help Healthy Coffee drinkers out with just who Christian is, they offered up this bio:

Mr. Hosoi emerged as one of the top competitors of vert riding alongside such pros as Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Lester Kasai, and Mark “Gator” Rogowski, with an eventual rivalry developing with Tony Hawk with two contrasting styles in both skateboarding and lifestyle — Christian, known for his flair and graceful style, and Tony, raising the bar with his technical ability and difficult tricks.
