It’s not SuperCross, but still another win for Shaun Palmer at the 9th Annual Monster Energy MX Crossover at Sacramento, California’s world famous Hangtown track.
Palmer, who’s backed by Monster Energy for his snowboard racing, was dominant in both motos at the pro MX track just outside Sacramento, pulling the holeshot and winning the opening moto, then tracking down BMXer Aaron Cooke (who holeshot the second moto) early and cruising to a seemingly effortless 1-1 finish against a field . . . which included Chris Roach, Matt Goodwill and Jim Moran . . . down to literally beginner MX racers like Monster Energy’s own Nate Holland (four-time Winter X Boardercross gold medalist) and U.S. Open snowboard great Tyler Emond.
No surprise. We’re just glad to see him sticking in with his winning ways.

Stardoll (Fame, Fashion and Friends) is another one of those sites that we don’t understand at all. But apparently the little girls understand. Stardoll is the “largest online community for girls who love fashion, shopping, decorating, creativity, and making new friends from around the world” and Ryan Sheckler is there and ready to dress up.
Apparently, Stardoll has more than 20 33 million users and Ryan is more popular than Beckham. Wonder if there is a “buy it now” button anywhere on the site?

Portland, Oregon’s action agency Nemo Design was just named number 78 on Oregon Business magazine’s The 100 Best Green Companies list in Oregon. With walls that this, who can blame them.
The 100 Best Green Companies were selected based on sustainable practices sections from the 100 Best survey process, completed by 372 employers last fall. Participation in the 100 Best survey is voluntary and free of charge. Companies had to employ at least 15 Oregon workers at the time of taking the survey.
Who was number 1 on the list? A developer. Hmmm. . .

Brazilian big wave charger Maya Gabeira is featured in an extensive profile (and video interview) in The Independent.
Underneath the veneer is a young woman driven to pursue a rush that few of us will ever know, punishing her body and testing her resolve as she breaks into a macho and fiercely-territorial boy’s club – all for a few big waves. . . “I thought it would be so cool to have a girl who could do it, just like the boys,” she says. “I thought it was an impressive sport, and so radical and intense, and it took so much dedication. And I thought if I ever saw a girl doing it, I’d be impressed? Right now, I can’t even visualise that that girl is me.”
Not that we’re arriving late to the Maya party, but this girl is rad.

Now, from our rarely updated “Smart Things Policemen Do” file comes news that the Police Department in Taft, California has decided that rather than hang out at the skateboard park writing tickets for kids skating without helmets they’re going to hang out at the park and give helmets away to kids for free. Genius. . .
Taft Police, with help from the Taft Rotary Club, are going to make sure that local skateboarders have helmets on when they go boarding. . . Police will be at the Taft Skate Park on Saturday to hand out 140 Mongoose skateboard helmets. . . The helmet giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.
But they’re not all rocket scientists in Taft. No, only kids who are at the park with their parents will get a free helmet. Which kind of defeats the purpose, in our opinion? Kids with parents who care enough to visit the skatepark with them probably already have helmets. But it still is a nice thought.

A few weeks ago we mentioned that Transworld Media’s parent company Bonnier Corp. had purchased five magazines from “the world’s largest magazine publisher” Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. Today the companies released the official announcement.
“We have always been committed to growing our portfolio of brands to include other passionate special-interest audiences,” says Terry Snow, CEO of Bonnier Corp. “These five titles from Hachette fit very well within our growth strategy of adding brands that serve markets with multimedia opportunities.”
We’re guessing no one is happier about this deal than Hachette Filipacchi. Click here to read MediaWeek’s coverage or follow the jump for the entire press release.

Palmerston North resident Tony Robert Costa, 33, died after “being struck on the head by another surfer’s board” with another surfer at Wellington, New Zealzand’s Lyall Bay, according to a story in the New Zealand Herald.
Fellow surfers, who had to contend with a rip, struggled to get Costa to shore following the collision and were not able to resuscitate him once they got him out of the water. . . President of Lyall Bay Surf Club Martin Robinson said he had never heard of anything similar happening in more than 20 years at the club. . . At that end of the beach there was a lot of competition for waves and boards would collide relatively often, but hadn’t heard of anyone being killed in a collision, he told Radio New Zealand. . . The water was not crowded because it was windy and the surf was choppy, he said.

Australia’s Stab magazine interviewed two of what they called Postsurf.com’s Lewis Samuels‘ “favorite targets” about how it feels to be berated in the Power Rankings. Here’s a little of what Phil Macdonald and Drew Courtney had to say:
Phil Macdonald:
Why would I care what some twerp, who just wants to be controversial, has to say? I’d love for him to say some of the shit he writes to my face. I wouldn’t hit him. I might word him up, but then again I don’t really care. Why would I invest energy into hating some dork, two-faced prick who writes shit for the sake of being controversial?
Drew Courtney:
It doesn’t bother me one little bit. But I heard a few of the Hawaiian guys are hunting around for him. I would love for him to show his face at one of the contests, instead of just watch ‘em on the web cast. I’d love to meet him face to face. It wouldn’t go real good.
Turns out Lewis did meet Drew face to face: or did he not? Click here to see how it went.
