Tilt Mode Digital Army Zine #1

by The Editors on March 29, 2010

TiltmodeWe hate digital flip books more than the average “digital print” hater. Our normal mood is: if you want to make a magazine print it. Otherwise, throw up a WordPress install and fill it with good content.

San Jose’s Tiltmode Army doesn’t care what we think about digital media, but they do care about skateboarding. And with a blog already rolling we’re guessing they wanted to do something else. Enter Tilt Mode Zine #1. It’s got a Caswell Berry retrospective, an interview with Jerry Hsu’s girlfriend April and kicks off the cover with a quote from The Dead Kennedys’ Holiday in Cambodia.

It doesn’t smell like a Zerox machine, but this little gem is 70 pages of quality zine goodness, all accessed by clicking an arrow to watch the page turn. Really, what else does anyone need?

Miss Mountains High 2010

by The Editors on March 28, 2010

Babes-51

Snowboarder Magazine is all about girls this weekend. They’ve got photos from the Roxy Chicken Jam and yet, they’re not afraid to post 49 Mark Imanuel photos from Mountain High’s Miss Mountain High Contest.

Nothing works better in the IE than hot girls and boobies. It appears that Chelsea Robinson (pictured right) was the ultimate winner (must have been the boots). We hear Louie Vito took his judging responsibilities very seriously.

Sheckler Wins Kids Choice Award

by The Editors on March 28, 2010

Sheckler Kca-1Last night (March 27, 2010), Nickelodeon held their 2010 Kids Choice Awards. Both Shaun White and Ryan Sheckler were up for Favorite Male Athlete in a list that included basketball greats Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.

Shaun White (who looked remarkably unexhausted) may have presented an award to Taylor Lautner, but he didn’t win. Apparently, the little girls still understand and Ryan rolled away with the win. Had this been the Cougars Choice Awards, there likely would have been a different, more tomatoey, winner.

The Tahoe faithful gathered again at Donner Ski Ranch today (March 27, 2010) for the Legends of Tahoe party and competition. This year’s comp: a GS race for pre-1993 snowboards. Norm Saylor was noticeably absent from the proceedings (although he watched the whole thing from his deck), Tom Burt was ageless as usual, and Pastor Jim Rippey (on the blue course) slayed the GS to edge Salty Peak’s Dennis Nazari for the win.

Inducted into official Tahoe Legend status at the end of the day where Billy Olson, Kirsten Bedard, ISM Founder Tom Hsieh, and snowboard event organizer Tom Collins. As Hsieh said during his acceptance speech, “Shaun White may be the world’s most important snowboarder, but he’s only that because he stands on all on your shoulders.”

The names of the inductees will be added to the perpetual Legends of Tahoe trophy on display in the Donner Ski Ranch lodge.

The Long Story Of Sector 9 Skateboards

by The Editors on March 25, 2010

We don’t really follow longboarding that closely, but we always enjoyed the way Steve Lake and the Sector 9 crew rolled in under the lazy gaze of the skateboard industry and capitalized on their own groove. They didn’t chase the market, they redirected it their way and caught nearly everyone off guard.

The Sector 9 story isn’t really news, but it is cool to hear Steve tell it.

Comune’s Corey Smith Interviewed

by The Editors on March 25, 2010

Corey 51Comune’s Art Director Corey Smith is or has been a snowboarder, a musician, an artist, and a clothing-designing, team-wrangler known to get in a few online scuffles in his time. YoBeat’s Nick Lipton interviewed the Silverlake dweller to get the whole story down; past, present and future including the crazy shit like this:

Well there’s the time I holed up in the presidential suite at Hotel Lucia with Sean Lennon and a bunch of models for a coupe days. We bought like a grand of assorted drugs and just got weird. I took a hot bath for like a day, then I just chilled in my white hotel robe, I thought I could speak different languages. The girls were all tripping out, trashing the place ordering room service and jumping around. We were singing songs and just tripping out. I love that dude, he’s a genius like his father.
