Smart Water is creating a new “models only” Model Lounge Miami South Beach’s Raleigh Hotel in South Beach and they’re reportedly bringing Volcom with them, according to a story on Miami New Times.
. . . only female models from Miami Beach’s top ten agencies will be granted entrance. . . The models will also get a new bikini every month from Volcom and poolside yoga classes. . . No male models are invited however.
Guess that means we won’t be getting any photos. Wonder if Wooly can get us in?

So this is what everyone was tweeting about last night. Long-time Rip Curl surfer and four time Womens ASP World Champion Stephanie Gilmore has reportedly signed a five-year contract with Quiksilver (not Roxy, to be clear), according to a post on the Mountain and Wave.
Under terms of the agreement Stephanie will ride for the Quiksilver team and has become a Quiksilver brand ambassador, joining a diverse and talented group which includes 13 other female artists, musicians, photographers, philanthropists and fashion designers representing Quiksilver’s lines for women. “I have had exceptional support throughout my career and I am excited to have this bright opportunity with the respected team at Quiksilver,” says Gilmore. “I am looking forward to pushing myself to new levels and feel this is a move which will help me stay inspired while competing at the highest level as a professional surfer on the ASP Women’s World Tour. It’s thrilling to be a part of an innovative and globally respected brand like Quiksilver. Its rich history and creative direction are well aligned with my personal ambitions.”
It really is the perfect match, especially if reports of Stephie being the $5 million woman are true.

Miami skate shop owner Rene Lecour wanted to take his son to a cool destination and they began researching Cuba. After seeing footage of some of the skateboards the Cuban’s were riding Lecour realized they could seriously help the skate scene there by taking some skateboards with them when they went to visit, according to a story on CNN.com.
Lecour . . . thought his contacts in the skating community would make it easy for him to bring boards to Cuba. He was wrong. . . “I e-mailed every single skateboard company I know,” Lecour said. “The only two responses I got were unfortunately one person who said we shouldn’t be allowed to go because of the embargo. Another ‘genius’ said we shouldn’t come because all the skaters are all communist.”
Thankfully, the Miami skateboard community came through where the industry had failed and Lecour was able to hand deliver skateboards to the kids of Cuba.

On New Year’s Eve, 75 snowboarders at Hyland Hills in Bloomington, Minnesota completed in Academy Snowboards’ Cash For Kids contest.

The finals went on for about 25 minutes until all $500 in cash had been dolled out. The judges crowned Justin Fronius overall winner and awarded him with a $100 cash bonus.

After a month and a half of wondering if Winter X Games 15 would include a spectacular performance by Shaun White it appears that both sides of the negotiation have come to an agreement. The mega shred star will take part in Disney’s made-for-TV snow sports entertainment festival in Aspen, Colorado this January 27-30, 2010.
According to a tweet from @Xgames:
This just in & confirmed, @Shaun_White will compete in Slopestyle & SuperPipe at Winter #XGames 15
