While we still don’t believe we’ve ever seen anyone under 45 using an iPad in the wild (fie to you obnoxious moms using iPads to snap photos of your kids at the beach), apparently Vans has. Why else would they put the time and effort into creating their new Off the Wall TV iPad app? Here’s what they say about it:
Off the Wall TV iPad app, delivers Vans’ offthewall.tv video network of exclusive, original action sports, music, art and street culture programming to millions of iPad users around the world. . . [users are] now able to enjoy offthewall.tv anywhere with the easy to use app.
The app (which is free in the iTunes store) features all the content from the offthewall.tv website. So, the next time you’re over at you aunt’s house, grab her iPad and load this thing up. It’s probably pretty cool. Not that we’d know.

On Friday, October 14, 2011 (and for one night only) West Hollywood’s Dem Passwords Gallery will host skateboarding filmmaker Greg Hunt’s first solo showing of video and photos from his sixteen years of documenting skateboarding The show, presented by Vans Syndicate, is titled Selective Memory.
As a filmmaker Greg Hunt has created some of skateboarding’s seminal works of the past decade (Sight Unseen: The DC Video and Alien Workshop’s Mind Field). All the while Greg photographed the characters, struggles, and endless travel that define his experience. It was in the mid nineteen nineties when, as professional skateboarder himself, Greg picked up his first camera, a still camera, and began to explore documenting his life and his friends’ lives within their surroundings, in the streets and on the road. Selective Memory encompasses sixteen years, combining over 150 still images with unseen archival film and video to offer a true inside glimpse of this particular outsider world.

The 2011 Quiksilver Pro France got off to a lay day start earlier today thanks to little to know contestable waves, but that doesn’t mean Dane Reynolds is off the hook just yet. No. Officials say there should be waves arriving soon.
“As expected, we don’t have much on offer this morning and have called a lay day today,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’re expecting an increase over the next several days and will reassess conditions for a possible start tomorrow morning.”
Lucky for Reynolds he gets to face Owen Wright in Round 1, Heat 5. How’s that for a welcome back? But we’re guessing the “nude beaches and wine” will make up for that. Follow the jump for the full Round 1 heat match-ups. [click to continue…]

Larry Stevenson’s Makaha Skateboards company was the originator of the kicktail. On the list of skateboarding innovations only the urethane wheel may have had a more important impact. And now, I.E. Distribution (parent company of World Industries) has picked up a “multi-year” license agreement to produce skateboarding prouducts with the brand.
“We’re pleased to be working with the Makaha people,” John Dickinson, i.e. distribution President. “While planning our growth in the longboard and cruiser category we felt it best to work with a brand that has roots in the culture. We feel that no other brand better accomplishes that but the original professional skateboard brand, Makaha.”

Dane Reynolds may have dropped out of every event on the 2011 ASP World Tour, but that doesn’t mean he has stopped surfing entirely. As evidenced by this new “sperm whale” edit shot by Michael Kew last week in Ventura County, California surfing’s $23 million man can and does still ride waves.

Skateboarders don’t stand a chance with people like Dr. James G. Corasanti on the road. In July we mentioned that Dr. Corasanti had been charged in the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old skateboarder Alexandra Rice. Forasanti has now been indicted, according to a story on the Buffalonews.com.
The Getzville doctor indicted Thursday on manslaughter charges was texting while driving drunk and speeding when he fatally struck a teenager with his 2010 BMW last July in Amherst, prosecutors say. . . An Erie County grand jury also lodged evidence-tampering charges against Dr. James G. Corasanti, 56, for allegedly removing the victim’s blood and body tissue from his BMW and deleting text messages from his mobile telephone.
Laughably, Corasanti’s defense attorney has described the doctor as “a healer.” Corasanti was given $250,000 bail. If found guilty of second-degree manslaughter he could get 15 years in prison.
