Streetwear is back, FAIRFAX is back…in a big big way, and you’d be stupid to not admit that Odd Future played a big big role in it. The best part is these guys don’t give a flying OF what you think, what I’m saying about them right now on this blog, how anybody did it before them, how the game is supposed to be played. To them, there aren’t even rules to break — there’s no field, there’s just them with baseball bats, in a glass room – they don’t see walls or limitations, and they’re swinging with reckless abandon. (Sometimes they’re aiming for all the people who doubted them, ignored, dismissed, and marginalized them) . . . And this is why I love Odd Future. Because they are doing everything right, the way a teenager is meant to be angry and rebellious, the way the youth are meant to upset the setup.
How’s that for a perfect reminder to everyone who thinks they’ve seen it all before?
Burton Snowboards has apparently decided that their girls need their own special place to hangout online. (Burtoxy?) The site is called Burtongirls.com and it features a forum, contributor content, “Burton outfits,” and place to share things on Facebook and Twitter.

Watching the Vans World Cup of Surfing is a reminder why Sunset Beach is one of those surf spots that can deliver everything on one wave. A hulking, shifting wall of chop, a spitting barrel, and bone crushing closeout. And yesterday, Dane Reynolds reminded those who thought he’d given up that he still can pretty much anything better than anyone in the world.
In the final heat of the Round of 64 Reynolds blew past Hank Gaskell, julian Wilson, and Tomas Hermes with a highest of the contest so far 18.37.
“I saw Hank and Julian sitting about 10 or 15 yards further out than me, muscling the peak. No matter what the lineup, I like to sit further inside. I like to see the waves coming at me. I guess I got one they couldn’t catch, a smaller wave with nice lines. I did a couple of turns on it, it felt good, but I didn’t know if it was a three or an eight. Turns out it was a 9.3 or something. . . “Competition for me is just an opportunity to see what pans out. I got really nervous, but it’s pretty rad to feel that sort of intense pressure. I kinda dig it. It makes you surf in a different way. And whatever happens, you always learn something from it.”
Is this the new competitive Dane Reynolds speaking? Sound like it. Sexting little strumpet Scarlett Johanson has teamed up with Neffand Zappos to design some new beanies to raise money for the City of Hope.
“I helped create this Neff Beanie with the hope that every purchase might make a cancer patient feel a bit more comfortable during his/her treatments,” explained Scarlett, “and look cool and be cozy all the while. The beanies are eco friendly too, so they’re as nice to the earth as they are to the person wearing them,” says Johansson.
For every Scarlett beanie that is sold (they’re only available on Zappos), Neff will donate one beanie to a City of Hope cancer patient/survivor. If and when they give away 5,000 beanies they’ll then begin donating 10 percent of the sale of each beanie until they reach a $20,000 donation after which they’ll just keep the rest. Zumiez reportedly beat the street again in Q3 with net income up 14.8 percent to $14.1 million, according to a story on Wall St. Cheat Sheet.
Rick Brooks, Chief Executive Officer of Zumiez Inc., stated, “Our merchandise, new store opening, and commerce strategies once again allowed us to deliver on our goal of consistent sales and earnings growth. Today (December 1, 2011) marks the beginning of the Salomon/Bonfire Team Vacation as Jed Anderson, Bode Merrill, Louif Paradis, Chris Grenier, Annie Boulanger, Harrison Gordon, Josh Dirksen, Desiree Melancon, Chris Carr, Jamie Nicholls, and Scotty Arnold reportedly hit the road.
Beginning in the Pacific Northwest this week the crew will roll down through California, over to New York, New Jersey, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Easter, Canada, Minnesota, and Utah before finishing up in Colorado January 20 -25, 2012. If you think you hate them now, wait ’til you ride with them (or something like that).
Filmmaker Jack McCoy takes the Tron crew surfing in celebration of the first day of summer in Australia.
On summer’s eve, 17 Strongbow surfers descended on Bondi Beach in custom made glow-in-the-dark surfboards and wetsuits as an official “welcome to summer” for Strongbow. Channel 10’s Bondi Rescue lifeguards, Corey Oliver and Andrew Reid, were among the surfers taking part.
To keep his promo image rolling Rob Dyrdek will apparently attempt to recreate the barrel roll car stunt from the James Bond classic Man With The Golden Gun in Los Angeles on December 17, 2011.
