With less than two minutes left in the Rip Curl Pro Portugal final and Gabriel Medina in the lead, Julian Wilson knew he needed to work some magic. Up popped a wave, Julian pulled into a barrel, busted out, threw a claim, threw down some turns and then had to walk up a quiet beach as the judges tried to sort things out. When they did it was an 8.43 for Wilson and that wave served as was payback for last time Wilson and Medina were in a final:
He beat me in a buzzer beater last year in France. To beat him back again on the buzzer was amazing,” Wilson said. “I don’t even know how to describe the feeling. He was trying to hold on to the lead there in the end. He was too busy worrying about me and that wave came behind it.”
Medina, after thinking maybe he had won the contest, was overcome with emotion on the podium. And, wiping tear away said, “That was a tough heat against Julian (Wilson),” Medina said. “Unfortunately he got the score on that last wave. I had a fun run through this event and the waves were really really good.”
There are who felt that Medina was getting underscored the entire final. Freddy Patacchia was one of them. “7.47 for @gabrielmedinaaa that is just wrong,” he said via Twitter. “That was the best barrel & wave of the heat. Should have been an 8.5 plus in my opinion.”

The surf wear giant Quiksilver is reportedly expanding its online retail presence with stores inside eBay’s Fashion Mall, according to a story on Insideretailing.com.au.
Gary Wall, GM of Quiksilver Australasia, said the move reflects the ongoing evolution of the online marketplace. . . “It is important to understand that eBay has evolved from an auction and secondhand marketplace to a serious full price channel and today the majority of eBay listings are fixed price and new product sales,” Wall said. . . “EBay is one of the biggest online clothing sellers and customers have been purchasing our products on eBay for many years but unfortunately from unauthorised sellers where we cannot guarantee authenticity of the product or appropriate customer service levels.
eBay would seem to streamline right in with Quik’s TJ Maxx, Ross, and Tuesday Morning distribution channel.

The Snowsports Industries of America is kicking down all the terrible numbers from the 2011-12 winter season. As any retailer or resort operator will tell you, it was one of the toughest seasons on record. Most of this is because people finally realized that going snowboarding is expensive. Interior decorators hoping to tap into modern youth design (and maybe spice up junior’s Pottery Barn room) have created a skateboard pendant light, according to a post on Technabob.
Though with its thin 24″ acrylic deck and narrow aircraft cables suspending it from its chrome canopy, I wouldn’t recommend trying to hop on it, unless you’re a hamster – or maybe a kitten.
Thing would probably look great hanging over a chrome and smoked glass dinning room table, too. We picture the table surrounded by hairy, mustachioed men in leisure suits and women in flouncy polyester Donna Summer dresses. Yes, the 70 are back. The light is available from eLights for only $178.00.

Snowboarding OG Mark Fawcett explains the handmade, reverse sidecut powder surfing Fawcett Snowboards.
. . . Theses new shapes are very surf inspired and crush traditional snowboards in the most epic of conditions…..That being POWDER.
