Supreme gets the big, old media treatment with a profile by the New York Times‘ Alex Williams. Sure, it’s full of many of the normal comments regarding boutique skate shops. . .
Huge lines, once endemic to its New York flagship in SoHo, now form at satellite stores in Los Angeles, London, Tokyo and other cities. The current issue of British GQ Style, a men’s fashion bible, hails Supreme as “the coolest street wear brand in the world right now.” And the Berlin culture magazine O32c called it “the Holy Grail of high youth street culture.” The Business of Fashion site called it “the Chanel of downtown street wear.”
But the piece also gets in with the story behind James Jebbia, the brand he launched 18 years ago, and why it hasn’t been completely blown out into big box stores. And those stories are always good.
Desillusion Magazine, the beautifully over-done print magazine (that is everything Monster Children dreams of one day becoming) teamed with with Analog and Alien Workshop to produce This Is Dylan— A 10 minute gaze into the life and time of Dylan Rieder.
At only 24, Dylan’s name is already well engraved in the history of skateboarding, thanks to his style, his personality and his incredible gift; that of skating fast and skating well. The skateboard mag voted him as 2006’s years best am award, but since then he turned pro, came out with an insane part in Mind Field, and has been blowing minds with his steely tricks all across the world. After a rather tormented period, where he tasted the dark side of street life, and where he found himself literally catapulted to the front of the scene, Dylan got back up again, brushed himself off and with incredible maturity, imposed his own style, a style which quickly turned him into an icon for an entire generation of skateboarders.
“Coming into Hawaii I was definitely feeling confident, feeling really confident in my boards,” said Zietz. “And you know, I’ve had a few injuries over the years, and they’re all healed up so I just believed in myself and I’m super stoked. I kept my head down and whoever I drew it didn’t matter, I was just in a heat against myself.”
Florence may have finished in second, but he was still super stoked for Zietz.
“I’m just so happy for (Sebastian) to win and it looks like he’s going to be on tour next year,” said Florence. “It’s always good to have another Hawaiian on tour, especially someone like him who’s always positive and happy and making everyone laugh.

Jazz piano prodigy Austin Peralta, the son of Bones Brigade co-creator Stacy Peralta, has died according to a story in the LA Times. He turned 22 on October 25, 2012.
Flying Lotus, the beat producer and label head who released Peralta’s music, confirmed the news Thursday morning via Twitter, writing: “it kills me to type that we lost a member of our family, Austin Peralta. I don’t really have the right words right now.” Peralta’s cause of death has not been announced.
Peralta, who released two jazz albums by the time he was 16, was reportedly working on a new album on Brainfeeder. Our thoughts are with Peralta’s family and friends.

There is likely no better way to escape Black Friday and buy nothing than roll at the park for 24 hours.
In another twist in the Billabong buyout story, Paul Naude has announced that he is stepping aside from his roll as board member and president of Billabong US for six weeks as he seeks “talks with financiers and gain support for a bid proposal” to purchase the company himself in a leveraged buyout, according to story in Bloomberg Businessweek.
“Paul’s generally viewed quite favorably by the market, which makes this an interesting trade,” Nick Berry, a retail analyst at Nomura Holdings Inc., said by telephone from Sydney. “If either a bid isn’t forthcoming or it gets knocked back it’s going to be very difficult for him to go back.”
A Naude led Billabong could be great for everyone, we wish him the best of luck. The market certainly seems to be happy about it as the stock is up 11 percent. Click here to read Jeff Harbaugh’s thoughts on the deal, or follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]
Now that the US Open of Snowboarding has moved to Vail, Colorado did you actually think that Burton was going to leave the Eastern United States completely free of snowboard competition equation? If you did you thought wrong because Burton and Mini have created a US Open Snowboarding Qualifier at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania held during the US Revolution Tour February 1-3. 2013.
“Breaking out the US Open qualifiers from the US Open semi-finals and finals is a big change, but it is a super positive change because it elevates the US Open qualifying rounds beyond where they’ve ever been before,” said Greg Dacyshyn, Burton’s Chief Creative Officer. “Now, not only will the talented riders who compete in the new US Open Qualifiers have an event all their own, they will also be formally rewarded and recognized for the first time with legit prize money, important tour points and increased media exposure via a live webcast and TV show. In addition, this new event format enables a part of the US Open to remain on the East Coast where it has such a deep heritage, something that was very important to us.”
