Jamie Anderson and Chas Guldemond took their rightful places at the top of the podium by huge margins. Chas was 12 points ahead of second place, Finland’s Roope Tonteri. And Anderson took her event by nine points over Norway’s Kjersti Buaas.
Guldemond even took one for the team. “My first run was for the U.S. Snowboarding team and my second run was for me,” Guldemond said. “As always I try to have a good time snowboarding no matter what. It feels so good to be on top and start the Olympic qualifying period. It’s my goal to continue this success to the best of my abilities. . . I have really been working hard to perfect my run and it is going well so far, I am happy with how my dub 12 is coming together.”
Anderson, who wins pretty much everything she enters still finds a way to sound surprised, which is nice. “This has all been unreal, I feel so lucky,” Anderson said. “Thirteen is my lucky number, I was born on the 13th and there are 13 letters in my name so I would like to think this good vibe will keep going through.

Nickolas Voyer-Taylor, the 22-year-old snowboarder who was found unconscious and “partially submerged” in a creek at the Big White Resort in Kelowna, British Columbia on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, has died, according to a story in The Province.
The RCMP say two skiers spotted the unconscious man partially submerged in the creek and buried in snow on Tuesday. . . Const. Kris Clark says it looked like the Voyer-Taylor had been in the water for some time, and it’s not known how he got there. . . He was recovered by ski patrol and paramedics began CPR before he was taken to Kelowna General Hospital, but he couldn’t be revived.
Voyer-Taylor was a seasonal employee who worked at the resort. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Daniel Rajcsanyi is a snowboarder from Munich, Germany. He is also reportedly “openly gay,” according to a story on Outsports.com. Dani wanted to enter a video for Nike’s Chosen competition so he filmed himself hitting a rail to stairs naked. The video (which is NSFW) is aptly titled German Sausage.
“I wanted to make a funny thing out of snowboarding. It was a provocation for the ‘freestyle’ scene. I wanted to change the bourgeois thinking and show the total freedom and fun of snowboarding, which should be the main thing.” He said he does not know of any other openly gay snowboarders and hopes that with the video he “made a little step forward.”
We never saw this edit featured in any Nike Chosen marketing, so we’re guessing it didn’t win (his other videos however did quite well and actually won in Austria, according to Nike). If you’d like to see Dani’s German Sausage edit, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
“Transformation is key for Billabong,” she said. “I’m sure there are people that don’t like to see the changes. . . They want the business to be what it was. I’m here to increase shareholder value. That’s my job. We have a lot of unhappy shareholders.”

We don’t really cover Skullcandy all that much anymore because they’re really more of consumer electronic company than they are anything else, but it is interesting to note that thanks to their currently low, low stock price Bloombergis mentioning today (January 9, 2013) that they are a perfect “takeover target.”
Down 66 percent since it began trading in July 2011, Skullcandy has performed worse than all but seven of the 185 U.S. IPOs completed since its debut, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The stock sank to a record low of $6.70 last week after Jefferies Group Inc. recommended selling the shares. The company’s enterprise value of 3.9 times earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization is cheaper than than 96 percent of stocks in the Russell 2000 Index, the data show. . . While increasing competition for in-ear headphones and the company’s move into lower-margin designs prompted the Jefferies downgrade on Jan. 2, Skullcandy shareholder Royce & Associates LLC says its brand may appeal to buyers such as Bose Corp. or Sony Corp. (6758) Even though Skullcandy’s revenue growth has slowed, the shares have fallen more than is justified and that might prompt a takeover, Roth Capital Partners LLC said.
Sony? Bose? What about Monster Cable? Any one of those wouldn’t be a bad exit strategy. Skullcandy shares are, of course, up on all the takeover talk.
Go behind the scenes with Goldcoast Skateboards‘ Product Developer, Brock Harris and Art Director, Dustin Ortiz to see hear some pretty heady stuff about skateboarding and what Goldcoast hopes to accomplish. We don’t really cruise, but there is no denying that these boards look nice.
Snowboarding brothers Jesse and Lukas Huffman produced this amazing 14-minute film exploring the lives of several Far Rockaway surfers following the devastation of Superstorm Sandy. It’s good.
