Valhalla’s March Logo Madness

by The Editors on March 3, 2014

Marchmad 2014Our favorite logo battle returns this March for 2014 as Scott Hultgren hits us back with Valhalla’s March Logo Madness.

The bracket competition takes its cues from the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament but instead of a bunch of guys running around for three hours, logos from brands like Quiksilver, Volcom, Indpendent Trucks, Girl, Burton, Nike, Adidas and Obey go head to head for a day. Whoever gets the most votes moves on to the next day to battle the next logo.

And who wins this contest is completely decided by online voters. That’s you! If you’d like to take part, click here for the first week’s battle, then tune back in each day during the month for another round of competition. This year’s madness kicks off with Surfing, following each week by skateboarding, snowboarding, lifestyle, and the Grand Royale winner take all battle the last week of March. by The Editors on March 3, 2014

Mick Fanning survived his round two head against 2014 Quik Pro Gold Coast trials winner Matt Banting, but Jordy Smith and 2John Florence were not so lucky in their round two heats against Tiago Pires (above) and Travis Logie.

“It (the competition) can be cruel at times, but it can also give you the greatest thrill of your life,” Smith said. “In the heat before me it was super consistent and around the five minute mark of our heat there was a few waves, but after that it switched off. I had two mid-range scores, and I waited for the next one for 16 minutes and it never came. I feel like my surfing was on point, but the ocean didn’t deliver. Today wasn’t my day. You have to move on.”

There are still four heats left to surf in round two so they haven’t all moved on yet. For the official, though somewhat abbreviated, word from the ASP including results and Roxy Pro , follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Adenda Show Dominates In Las Vegas

by The Editors on February 28, 2014

Agendalv

Times have never been better for the Agenda Tradeshow. Las Vegas was a hit (or so we’ve heard from multiple sources). Agenda WMNS killed, the WOODS went off, and it seems no one is happier than the hardworking king of street, skate, and surf culture networking, Agenda founder Aaron Levant.

“Last year’s inaugural launch surpassed our expectations. We came back to bring the AGENDA experience to Vegas for a second year, and couldn’t be more excited about it,” Levant said. “Many of the brands were unsatisfied with the existing Vegas show format. After entering Vegas last August, we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both retailers and brands. Returning to Las Vegas was a no brainer.”

For the official word from Agenda, please do yourself proper and follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Skier Tiger Shaw Takes USSA Top Job

by The Editors on February 28, 2014

ussa_logo.jpgFormer Olympic ski racer Tiger Shaw will assume the role of CEO of the US Ski and Snowboard Association beginning March 13, 2014. He is replacing Bill Marolt in what the USSA calls a “long-planned leadership transition.” Marolt will reportedly stay on in an advisory position with USSA as well as on all the big deal FIS and US Olympic organizational committees that he’s on. Shaw couldn’t be happier with his new job.

“The Best in the World vision established under Bill Marolt’s leadership has aided our athletes in achieving their dreams,” Shaw says. “It’s an honor to follow in Bill’s footsteps and continue that vision into the future. My last five months working with Bill have been inspirational and educational, getting to know the organization and each of its sport programs. We have an amazing management team and staff in place and I look forward to the challenge of leading the USSA.”

Nice to know the future of US Olympic snowboarding continues to be firmly gripped in the icy hands of another Alpine ski racer, right where it belongs.

The trials are finished (Australian’s Matt Banting and Keely Andrew won) and now we’re all simply waiting on a proper swell.

First call is at 1:30 PM PST today (February 28, 2014) US Time, 7:30 AM March 1, 2014 in Australia. To watch live, click here. For the official word from the ASP, including Round 1 heat match-ups, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
