Stephanie Gilmore Wins 6th World Title

by The Editors on November 27, 2014

Stephanie Gilmore (AUS)

After her loss in the quarter finals of the Target Maui Pro all five-time ASP women’s world champion Stefanie Gilmore could do was wait and see what happened to title contenders Sally Fitzgibbons and Tyler Wright. Fitzgibbons was knocked out by Bianca Buitendag in the very next heat, leaving Gilmore waiting until the final between Carissa Moore and Tyler Wright was decided before knowing if she could celebrate or start planning for next year.

“That was probably the most emotional I’ve ever been watching someone else surf in my life,” Gilmore said. “I know how focused Tyler (Wright) is and I was completely prepared for a surf-off. However, I also knew how incredibly capable Carissa (Moore) is at virtually every venue. I feel like I had a year’s worth of emotions packed into one heat. I won my first title here at Honolua Bay, but after my loss in the Quarterfinals, I was prepared for anything to happen. I’m really emotional right now.”

Gilmore’s title was saved when Carissa Moore became victorious over Tyler Wright. For the official word from the ASP, please follow the jump.

“Peace Park is all about bringing the soul back into snowboarding,” comments Davis. “I’m really stoked that my sponsors believe in me and continue to support my vision of keeping snowboarding fun and creative. This year’s Peace Park is different than any other, offering something for every style of snowboarder to ride. We had riders from all around the world show up!”

After the NBC premiere you’ll be able to watch the whole thing again on the Youtube channel of a certain mouse dissolving (but soon no longer flame retarding) caffeinated, carbonated, high fructose corn syrup product marketed as a drink. But please, don’t put that stuff in your body no matter how cool Mr. Davis makes it look.

by The Editors on November 20, 2014

Yoshirt_Logo

Now you can say goodbye to all the branded logo shirts that the rest of the mall shoppers are wearing this winter with a brand new iOS app from #YoShirt (not to be confused with leading online snowboarding site Yobeat).

With #YoShirt you can create your own shirt  (or tank, or sweatshirt, or socks) with your own photos, graphics, designs, text, or whatever and have it shipped directly to your house.

Yoshirt was founded, designed and developed by artist, CEO of mobile app firm 99centbrains, and former UI designer at Zynga, Franky Aguilar. Franky designed and built Catwang, Snoopify, and nearly 40 other apps accounting for over 10 million downloads and billions of images created to date.  The co-founding team is rounded out by CTO Ben Williamson, former Senior Software Engineer at Apple, Inc, responsible for administrating $15 billion in retail transactions and CEO Brian Garofalow, a branding, apparel and supply chain expert who served as former Global Marketing Director of DC Shoes and apparel brand RVCA.

#YoShirt! has also just signed a deal with Neff that allows the kids to create their own Neff products right on the phone and get them shipped directly back. This is some proper street fashion disruption right here. DIY, dog. DIY. For the official word from #YoShirt!, please follow the jump,.

Oakley Relives The Past In A New Book

by The Editors on November 19, 2014

Oakley Slipcase-3DWhile we’re all waiting for something (anything, really) new from the disruptive by designers at Oakley, they’d like to distract us all from the present for a few minutes with a little ramble through their storied past. You know, when they designed amazingly cutting edge objects of sport that changed the world.

The new book, cleverly called The Oakley Book, will only cost you $195 (which is probably cheaper than anything else they sell these days).

The 220 page premium coffee table hard cover book is housed in a black rubber slipcase with metal ellipse Oakley logo and features 200 inspiring images throughout the brand’s history including early advertisements, world-renown athlete ambassadors and product design sketches – some of which have never before been revealed to the public. It’s a story of disruption by design, futurism mixed with heritage and vision without limit. This is the world according to Oakley.

So, if you’re a collector of all things Oakley, then please, by all means, ante up. For the official word from Oakley, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Burton Snowboards and Mini threw a massive street rail contest in Tokyo last weekend. It was the 4th annual Burton Rail Days and more than 5,000 people reportedly came out to see the action going down.

In the end, it was Zach Aller (CAN) who took home $15,000 with a first place finish. Aller’s first run of frontside board slide, backside 180 to board slide on the transfer, and 50-50 on the ledge to wall ride was good enough to get the win. In second place was Jaeger Bailey (USA) with a 50-50, 270 to board slide, and 50-50 on the ledge. And finally, Yuma Abe (JPN) took third-place honors with a wall ride 540. Zach Aller not only came away with his first Burton Rail Days title, but also had one of the more impressive stories of the week. After a last-minute opening in the competition, Aller was contacted with an invitation, just hours before he jumped on a plane to Tokyo to compete.
