We keep thinking that the wholeBurton Love story finally over, but then some new twist turns up.
For instance: the Burlington, Vermont city council on Monday night voted 12-1 on a resolution requesting that the Burton Corporation meet with local activists regarding the Love and Primo lines of snowboards, according to a story in the Burlington Free Press.
The resolution, a softer version of one originally proposed, doesn’t force Burton to take any action, but rather encourages the Burlington-based company to listen to the concerns of community organizations that say the boards promote self-harm and misogyny.
The rougher resolution apparently called for the company to stop producing the boards.
Breckenridge has always been the season opener for competitive snowboarding. And this year it looks like everything is almost as it should be as the AST Dew Tour launches into their inaugural winter tour December 18-21, 2008 with slopestyle and halfpipe.
The athlete roster reads like the who’s who of the modern . . . snowboard movement, highlighted by multiple X Games and Olympic medalists including snowboard athletes Shaun White, Hannah Teter, Andreas Wiig, Travis Rice and Gretchen Bleiler.
Sadly freeskiing is also included in the event. Which is odd because the AST Dew Summer Tour doesn’t feature inline skating, why would it be included it in the winter events? [click to continue…]
Former Mack Dawg Productions filmmaker Brad Kremer has just announced that he will be heading up Burton’s cinematography division.
It has always been a dream of mine to work for Burton,” says Brad. “I am honored to be a part of such an amazing team and I am looking forward to redefining snowboard media with Burton.”

Is Quiksilver’s stock price really going to drop below the one buck line today? Because with twenty minutes to go it’s hovering at $1.25. But it got an immediate 18 cent bounce in after hours trading. . . wonder what’s up?
Alexis Roland is 8 years old. She’s already a professional snowboarder sponsored by Burton. Apparently, child labor laws aren’t that difficult to get around these days.
We feel sorry for sports writers. It’s seems their whole game is spinning babble-filled yarns about nothing so they can justify getting paid to write stories about silliness. USA Today’s action sports specialist Sal Ruibal worked overtime on his recent Shaun White story. Here’s what we mean:
Shaun White is a major league mench.. . . The Yiddish word for a person of honor and integrity wasn’t coined with red-headed, board-shredding millionaires in mind, but 22-year-old White has grown into it. . . . The former uber-grom has emerged from sixth-grade phenom status to become one of the world’s best athletes in snowboarding and skateboarding. He owns multiple gold medals from the Summer and Winter X Games, Summer and Winter Dew Tour and 2006 Winter Olympics.
How’s that for a mainstream sports pitch? Major league, Mench, Yiddish, shredding, uber. . . We can almost hear the paper’s editors: “If that doesn’t make every fat-assed, couch plowing, football fan put down their beer and read a newspaper, nothing will.”
There are priests who surf so why not a snowboarding Rabbi. Chaim Shapiro is right for the job. The Rabbi moved to Vancouver from New York after marrying Leah Feigelstock, now the two are set on creating “Jewish programming in the alpine resort town of Whistler, B.C.”
Rabbi Shapiro has organized après-ski prayers when a minyan was needed for someone to recite Kaddish, as well as Shabbatons, a mobile sukkah on the back of a truck, Chanukah parties and Rosh Hashanah services.
